I just visited the new Alaska Airlines terminal in Anchorage. It is incredible! Stainless steel accents on white curved walls and ceilings, and marble floors. All ticket counters feature a glass backdrop with a simple Alaska logo at the top, and flat screen TV's broadcasting flight and destination information.

To checkin, they are using the "Airport of the Future" concept, which is a hybrid between the traditional personalized service received at a traditional ticket counter and the kiosks. I'd explain more but hate to beat the issue to death.

Have you visited ANC? what are your thoughts? ^

We were there last weekend. The airport looks good. Sure wish we could have seen the inside of the new Board Room. ;)

Couldn't agree more about ANC. I really like their observation area on the 2nd flr, and the gate areas are great. Lots of space for the combis down at the end too.

Does anyone know if the new BR has wireless internet? (it hasn't been open during the times I've passed through).

I went to the open house for the new wing & visited the new Board Room that same afternoon. Both are world class facilities. They better be, that wing cost just under a half BILLION dollars to complete. Works out to around fifty million dollars per gate.

Thanks uncle Ted!!!!

I passed through the new terminal at ANC on July 5th. While it's an OK terminal, you'd think with the amount of time and money spent on it, it wouldn't have some of the glaring flaws it does now ...

1) Not enough seating by far. At all the gates I saw, there were more people than seats. Seeing dozens of pax sitting on the floor across from many of the gates leaves the impression that the terminal design was lacking in something pretty basic.

2) The "design flow" of the check-in areas had pax (and some agents) confused and tripping over each other.

3) Many of the two panel blue/green arrival/departure boards shared a big flaw -- while they listed times, flights and gates, these displays didn't list the *current time*. Another big *duh* out to the designers there. The 3 panel displays included the current time, but those were fewer in number. While there's lots of pretty stuff to look at in the new terminal, there's not much in the way of clocks and time displays.

4) The stall areas of the restrooms were poorly lit and cave-like.

5) As you walked through the new terminal, you'd walk under large panels with lightweight twine wrapped around them with handwritten "loose panel" and "don't remove or cut" signs near the twine. Yipes.

I was there yesterday, Sunday, July 11. I tend to notice things like the floor. The granite tiles are attractive but with all the cuts nad curves it wasn't cheap to lay. The main area of the terminal is very open and large like most new ones, very unlike LAX or the old section of BOI.

I didn't see a first class check in in ANC. I'm sure there must have been one but it wasn't where I noticed.

The Board Room was nice but the one at SEA is more attractive and has better views. It's obvious AS was making it a point of having a good club in SEA but the paneling and tables in ANC have the appearance of my Ikea furniture.

The first class check in is the area of kiosks and baggage check nearest to security. Could be better marked though. They don't seem to have the first class carpets yet either.

I agree with a little initial confusion about the check in and it is a little chaotic. Nothing that can't be fixed with a big "Step 1" sign at the kiosks, and "Step 2" at the baggage drop.

And BTW, the workers were fixing those "loose panels" when I was up there last.
