Well hello everyone, :-:

I just wanted to let all travelers know that there is a great destination that has a lot to see. Luckilly, I only live a 3 hour drive from there so it is a great weekend getaway. For those wanting to see a little French culture, Montreal has that and a whole lot more to offer.

While I was there last weekend to see Ani Difranco (performing at the Jazz festival) I stayed for 3 nights at the UQAM (University of Quebec A Montreal) Residence) which is located just a ten minute walk from the OLD PORT, The site of the festivals, Shopping, Chinatown, and a lot more. It is affordable compared to the big hotels and really provides a great alternative to the unnecessary features of a full service hotel. The bed was comfortable and many rooms have a kitchenette so with fridge and two burners. We bought some food and were able to spend the saved money on our shopping spree at the Eaton Center instead.

We arrived by VIA Train and walked to the residence
Checked in early with no problem and got going to see the sites.
We checked out the Jazz Fest
We went shopping
Enjoyed Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream
Ate supper at a mexican restaurant called Casa de Mateo (Old Port)
Had a "Beaver Tail"
Went to see Ani Difranco
Had an Orange Julius.....
Toured the Old Port with the many shops, artisans and fabulous restaurants
We were going to go to the Casino, but my girlfriend wouldn't let me!
Ate a great hot dog from a street vendor, and the outdoor music and entertainment.

There is so much more.. !

There is still time to enjoy these festivals this summer.

JAZZ FESTIVAL - June 30 - July 11

Just For Laughts Festival - July 15 - 25 2004

UQAM Residences

GETTING THERE
METRO (Subway) Berri-UQAM or Champs-sur-Mars
AVERAGE RATES (IN CANADIAN DOLLARS)
$39.50 Single Occupancy
$57.00 Double Occupancy

The subway cost $2.50 per ticket, but you can buy day passes, week passes and sheets of 6 tickets for a discount.

I would recommend buying an Entertainment Book for the restaurant coupons.... unless you already have the trip planned, you could contact me and I could send you a couple coupons that I wont have time to use.
