On a recent trip to South Africa, I found myself finished with check-in and through security at CPT with about 90 minutes to kill before boarding my flight to ATL.
I had a notebook so I was quite willing to work on my journal in the terminal, but wanted to save my battery and looked for an electrical outlet. I couldn't find any outlet in the general waiting area, so I decided to ask. The first two airport staffers didn't have any suggestions where to find an outlet, so I asked at the SA lounge.
The very nice lady there immediately invited me to "Come in and use one in our work area". Thanking her, I slid into a workstation and proceeded to update my journal entry, all the while enjoying the hospitality of the SA lounge staff.
This had to be the most pleasant 90 minutes I have ever spent before a Y class flight. A couple of G&Ts, a couple of sandwiches, and some peanuts later I thanked the hostess and the bar staff and proceeded to board my LONG flight on the first leg of my trip home.
The moral of the story - sometimes even non-status, deep discount Y travellers get lucky, just by being friendly and asking.
