HI FT'ers,

I'm travelling to Florida for my vacation and would like to use my Blackberry whilst there. Unfortunately I am told it costs between 5-8 GBP per day for the priviledge of roaming with my 'Berry.

Can anyone shed further light on this? Seems very expensive to me.

Neil.

You'll pay for the data you use up, the more email you get the more you'll pay.

Before you leave setup filters in your system to mke sure you receive only the most important emails.

Turn off the auto-more funtion in the mail client on the device, and don't do any web/wap browsing.

Typical costs can be around $15 per MB of roaming data, and the average user does around 500Kb per day, so the guess is pretty correct.

No real way around it, except for leaving it at home.

If you want to take the Blackberry with you and use it as a phone only, and not receive any email then you can delete the service books before leaving, that way it won't have any email capability, but you'll have to resend the service books once you arrive back in the UK. If you have the web client then you'll find the resend servicebook in the options/profile menu.

Using a UK I-Pass account in the US will ALWAYS cost more than a Blackberry :)
