Trying to take advantage of the 500 spg.com/AMEX bonus starpoint offer. I have read some reviews about the Westin not being up to par with others in this Starwood product line. Does anyone have any experience at the Sheraton they would like to share?

The Sheraton is no palace that is for sure. They forgot to clean my room before I got into it. There were some clothes and other items (like dirt) that the people before had left behind. They told me they would upgrade me (I didn't ask) when I made the phone reservation with SPG and when I got there of course they wanted $30 extra for a club room. The weekend rates are not too bad but during the week the rates are high. The club lounge had a skimpy breakfast (this was the weekend) and nothing but a couple of sodas during the day. If I am staying in Stamford again I am going to try the Westin.

Westin!!! There is no question about it!! It is the better hotel. Really clean rooms and friendly staff. I will be staying there again next week.

The Sheraton is a little further away from the dining area in Stamford and the Westin is on the other side of town(industrial) but closer to the main dining area and closer to the trains to NYC.

The staff at the Westin pass out bottles of water to guests as they are walking out in the AM. Nice touch!

I don't know the Sheraton. I have been in the Westin. Did not like it at all. Small room, not very clean, location is not perfect.
Not a typical Westin - would not stay there again!

I have stayed at the Sheraton twice and the Westin 3 or 4 times, all during weekend stays. Both hotels are OK, but nothing special. For a suburban hotel I think both are about average for the brand.

If the price of both is about the same I go for the Westin since the beds, shower, toiletries and decor are nicer. As noted in previous posts, the rooms are not large, but I think they are nicely done and the bathrooms are fairly spacious. Size is not everything.

Both hotels have been good to me with suite upgrades. The Sheraton suites are actually nicer as they are purpose built corner suites (but unfortunately with dated microscopic bathrooms and of course the dreaded Sheraton tioiletries). The Westin suites (that I got) are the conference room type... a standard bedroom with a conecting door to a large room with a conference table and a mish mash of left over furniture thrown in there.

as much as it may go against the grain, I'd consider staying at the Marriott there, or perhaps the Hyatt in Greenwich.
I have stayed at the Westin and Sheraton, both are diasppoiting. :(
Even better, stay at a W in New York and take Metro north to Stamford and back.

Although the Stamford Marriott is OK for such a property, its typically squishy MC beds make you appreciate the Starwood Heavenly/Sweet Sleeper at those properties.

any recent info or insight? I may be shipped off to Stamford in the next few weeks and want to be prepared.

I'd still agree with all of the previous posts . . . the Westin is a superior hotel if given an option of the two. The rooms are small, but the helpfulness and courtesy of the staff is what you come to expect at a good hotel. They were handing out granola bars in the morning when I was there last (several months ago). The rooms are small, but it’s what can be expected on the East coast. Hope that helps!

The Westin has nicer decor, but smaller and fewer rooms, so chance for upgrade less.
If you have a car, maybe Westin. No car, and not want to spend a lot on taxis, Sheraton. The Westin is near NOTHING, and minimum 15 min walk to anyplace to eat. Sheraton has a mall a block away, and several restraunts within 2 blocks.

If you exercise, Sheraton has a decent indoor pool None at Westin, AFAIK.

Edit: Sheraton has the largest rooms of any *wood I've stayed at in NY, or CT. Probably due to cheap land.
