Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - 4500+ Diamonds in the world!

I read a magazine the other day in the Wing and came across a CX feature, and at one point in the article, it was stated that there are roughly 4500+ Diamonds, and more than 20,000 other members. :)

i doubt there are that many diamonds out there......i'll check later tonight

i don't find the number too surprising...if i remember right back in early 2001, there were ~3500 diamonds/invitations worldwide, with two-thirds of this based in HK...now after >3 years it's not too surprising that they have increased the number of this loyal group by 30%...

Actually it'll be more interesting to find out how many Invitation members there are... and how many of them were Life members before.

any guesses before i post later tonight?

ok, the figures from 20 May 2004:

Invitation : worldwide 305 with hkg taking 136;
Diamond : worldwide 4113 with hkg 2348; and
Gold : worldwide 12138 with hkg 6462

That's surprising. I thought there would be much more Gold than 12000+.

It seems for doubling of qualification level, the numbers of member drop by 1/3. Does that mean there are approx 40,000 silver members?

I seem to come across many silver/gold members on Airport express in HKG. But seldom see Diamonds.

gear down has posted stuff before which indicated an inside knowledge of CX, but I am surprised by those numbers because they are significantly smaller for Diamond numbers than those told to me by Kester Yim, head of MPC at the time, when I met him a couple of months ago.

Having said that I guess the numbers could have started to fall somewhat in the last couple of months as the complimentary one-year extensions due to SARS start to run out.

Also, can you let us know what the status is for the second-hand 744s. Are they all coming from BA and how many?

fakecd, you are close - 39,003 silver members worldwide of which 16,227 are from hkg.

sq pps - 2,052,871 members. as for the additional 744s, until the paperwork has been completed for all the 744s no announcement will be made and no mention of the number to be purchased but they will '..acquire as many 2nd hand 744s as we are able to crew..'
