Not a very recent article. They talk about Sydney reopening "this summer". No chance. They will be lucky to reopen NEXT summer. Unless of course they are referring to AU summer. Why would they do that? :)

I am certain that the article WAS referring to the Australian summer, i.e., the months of December 2004, January 2005, and February 2005.

Hilton Sydney is definitely scheduled to open in the Australian summer of 2004. They must have had a lot of questions, because there's an announcement to that effect on the hotel's web page (http://www.hilton.com/en/hi/hotels/index.jhtml?ctyhocn=SYDHITW).

Keep in mind that AU summer goes until late March 2005. That is a more likely opening than December or January.
They've had a lot of problems with the refurbishment - a very old property that they were trying to do some major structural changes and I think they also hit asbestos problems.
Yes, summer in Australia is (supposedly) 1 December to 28 February, but then again it can last for months...Given that it will be a major convention centre, I'm sure they want to start recouping the costs soon...a lot of regular HH members haven't enjoyed "The Grace" as a replacement so have been heading to SPG. It'll take a bit to woo us back...
