Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - New Business Class Seats on CX839 YVR-HKG?View Full Version : New Business Class Seats on CX839 YVR-HKG? CGK Jun 22, 04, 8:51 pm Hi: I have to decide soon whether taking AC YVR-HKG or CX839 in C-Class. I heard CX will have a new C-class seat. Is this correct? Thank you. The Day after Tmr Jun 23, 04, 3:19 am Yes, CX does have new business class but it is in such a bad angle which you can hardly get any sleep as you will keep on sliding down. :td: So if I am you, I will take AC instead. 44C Jun 23, 04, 3:57 am CGK, All long-haul CX flights are equipped with the new Business Class Seat. For product information please see: http://www.cathaypacific.com/intl/inflight/class/0,,31989,00.html There are mixed reviews on the seat. I personally like it as long as you don't make the seat completely flat, since it is at an angle and I at least feel like I'm sliding off. If you search on this forum you will find many posts discussing the merits of the seat. The service, AVOD and food is generally considered much better than AC as far as I've understood. mhtaipei Jun 23, 04, 6:33 am Yes, CX does have new business class but it is in such a bad angle which you can hardly get any sleep as you will keep on sliding down. :td: So if I am you, I will take AC instead. You have GOT TO BE KIDDING. Even if you dislike the flat position, CX seats (and every thing else) are just far superior to AC. I don't even bother to go into details. skye Jun 23, 04, 8:14 am You have GOT TO BE KIDDING. Even if you dislike the flat position, CX seats (and every thing else) are just far superior to AC. I don't even bother to go into details. Exactly what I would have said. Guy Betsy Jun 23, 04, 10:26 am Well, this is the CX board after all... but I wouldn't even dare compare CX to AC for fear of backlash if you were to post this query over at the AIR CANADA forum. There are some mighty loyal AC flyers there that have no qualms in choosing AC over any other carrier. That said, people whom I have introduced CX's Business Class service , even on a short haul basis (between YVR-JFK) have all vowed never to step foot on board any AC aircraft ever again. It's not even the seats... it's the WHOLE attitude of what service is all about.. and considering that the crew servicing most YVR-JFK flights were hired in CANADA! One makes you wonder what differences in changes takes place when say two people were hired at the same time at CX and at AC.. and 3 months later.. you have two different products ... Anyway, that's my rant.... Take CX... you, too might be transformed forever... CGK Jun 23, 04, 12:45 pm Thank you all. I will take CX YVR-HKG-BKK this weekend. AC was at the bottom of my list anyway. I was able to get SQ1 SFO-HKG upgraded to F. But you all convince me to try the new C on CX. In addition, it will be a hassle to go through US Customs and Immigration at YVR to catch SQ flight out from SFO, especially Monday I will enter EWR from SIN in the new SQ nonstop flight. So, I will experience the new C on CX this Friday and will be able to compare to the SpaceBeds on SQ Monday. Well, this is the CX board after all... Take CX... you, too might be transformed forever... Hmm.. let's see Guy Betsy. At least now I can earn more points towards my BA Gold by flying CX. I know CX is a dominant at YVR where I reside. The down point is that the agent gave me the answer that I can only check-in 2 luggages. The third one will be CAD160 all the way to Bangkok. Oh well... mtacchi Jun 23, 04, 1:04 pm YMMV, but I had no problem checking in 3 Pieces YVR-BKK. None were too big, just 3 normal sized bags. I was on a J ticket. ROTFL!! AC is Bankrupt and I think that includes their J seat! Take CX as all planes are refitted with NBC. A while back CX838 had OBC, but that was like early 2003. It's all NBC now. The Day after Tmr, welcome to FT! Better have a CX mooncake to ACs bisquet. Guy Betsy Jun 24, 04, 2:18 am ...The down point is that the agent gave me the answer that I can only check-in 2 luggages. The third one will be CAD160 all the way to Bangkok. Oh well... If you speak nicely to the agent.. and say that it's your first time on CX.. and that you decided to take CX over AC that day... then they might waive the 3rd piece through if the flight isn't packed... Are you based in YVR? SO am I! Care to meet for a cuppa sometime>? Are you based in YVR? SO am I! Care to meet for a cuppa sometime>? Perhaps I will try this trick. Should I show my SQ Solitaire card? But the flight tomorrow is quite full according to CX agent. Now it shows C0 Y0. Yes I am based in North Vancouver. Next time I see your posting from YVR, I will PM you. skye Jun 24, 04, 9:10 pm Are you based in YVR? SO am I! Care to meet for a cuppa sometime>? I'm going to Burnaby in August, where are you based? :) Guy Betsy Jun 25, 04, 9:36 am I'm going to Burnaby in August, where are you based? :) Yaletown in Vancouver. But by August/September, I might be relocating to North Vancouver. Which really isn't that far away, if not for the Burrard Inlet! skye Jun 25, 04, 7:58 pm Yaletown in Vancouver. But by August/September, I might be relocating to North Vancouver. Which really isn't that far away, if not for the Burrard Inlet! Ah, interesting! :) CGK Jul 1, 04, 4:17 am I did take CX for my YVR-HKG-BKK in C and BKK-SIN in F. When I checked in at YVR, since I had 3 luggages the agent told me to pay the 3rd bags for CAD160. But when I said I understand that I had to pay and mentioning that I was also booked SFO-HKG on SQ but opted for YVR-HKG on CX also, after he gave me my BPs he said that since my total luggages is around 60kg CX is waiving the charges. Guy Betsy Jul 1, 04, 12:04 pm I received an interesting email from Customer Relations today... blah blah blah.. but that CX will be improving the NBC on their long haul fleet in the months (years?) to come. Hmmm. Enquiring minds want to know. :P inlanikai Jul 1, 04, 8:19 pm Sounds like they got religion and realized "straight" doesn't mean "flat". |
