Starwood Preferred Guest - Westin Las Vegas - OK for business trip?

I have a speaking gig in Vegas at the end of July at the Embassy Suites airport, which is sold out. Is the Westin a viable option, i.e. will it be quiet enough for me to get a good night's sleep, is there a high speed connection that works to check email.

Also how far is it from the ES? I'll probably have a car

Don't know the distance from the ES. You will find high speed connections and pay for them. Rooms are a bit small. Those at the back have an unlovely view of the back parking/alley, and may be above several monster AC units that will interfere with your sleep. Several thread here has recounted service difficulties. This would not be my first or second choice.

Actually, I was just there last week on a convention. In my opinion, the hotel is perfect for business. There is a VERY small casino, which is good, cause there isn't a lot of noise or drunks walking around. All rooms have high speed connections for about $11 a day. The rooms are a little small for Vegas, but they are very clean (doesn't hurt that they're brand new), comfortable, and inviting. The beds ofcourse are probably the best in Vegas for a standard room.

But I do agree that you end up getting a rather miserable view. I didn't find it noisy, but the AC wasn't very strong in the room.

Just returned from a two night stay.

The place would be perfect for a business trip. Great beds, Molten Brown products, Starbucks, and a newly renovated room with a good size desk.

I didn't think the room was small at all. We were on the 15th floor in a Deluxe room. Although we had a view of parking lots only, there were certainly no loud ac noises. My room was constantly freezing -- I often turned the air up even though it was 105 outside.

One plus in Vegas, it doesn't take 20 minutes to find the exit to the hotel. About a ten minute cab ride to the airport.

For the record, my only comparison is a room at the Hard Rock; our Westin room was considerably nicer.

For business I would say ok, it was pretty peaceful when I was there in March, cannot say much for service though, no Upgrade for SPG Platinum members, no amenity, and just not what I thought the experience should be, but clean and brand new, you might want to take that into consideration.

Having stayed with Embassy quite often for business trips, I will say that the Westin is better, by a thin margin.

The Westin has better beds, hands down. The rooms are nicer. Service can be spotty from what some people have said, however, I didn't have a problem. No platinum upgrade. No club floor here, so no free breakfast.

The Embassy Suites has a better pool area (don't care when I'm working), free breakfast and happy hour. Marginally easier to get to your room from the parking area.

I spent quite a bit of time at the Embassy Suites in the past. However, having done both, I'll go back to the Westin, if prices are similar.

I think Owner1 needs to talk to the management. When I booked (as a Plat), I got a letter two weeks before arrival from the management; a king's welcome on showing up; my 500-point amenity; a pound of chocolate; and a great room on the top floor (all the rooms are the same size - check the emergency exit maps). High-speed was $11/day (and worked like a charm). Won big at the casino's blackjack tables too. All this for something like $110/night on an internet rate.

The big deal here is the Westin Heavenly Bed - sure beats the piece of foam at The Orleans.

I called ahead also and informed the hotel that it was a special ocassion and any upgrades possible would be appreciated, I booked a Deluxe room on a high floor, and when I called I was told I got a wonderful upgrade, well, that was not the case, the hotel was booked and the hotel only has ten suites so upgrades are rare, I am very glad you were treated the way a SPG Platinum should of been treated, I do not know when you stayed, but My letter to the General Manager was very detailed, and I received a good response, I could of stayed anywhere, but being a loyal SPG member I stuck to my roots, the treatment was not that great, but the GM made up for it after.

I've stayed there about 4 times since they opened, once as a Plat and the rest as Gold (didn't quite requalify for this year). The first time, while I was still Plat, they apologized and said the suites weren't open yet, and they couldn't upgrade me. The rest of the stays have all been just your standard room. In any case, I have yet to see any special treatment. Yes, the room is a bit small, but I think the bed makes the whole experience worth it, and certainly it doesn't hurt that you don't have to spend 15 minutes wandering around the casino (or the parking garage) to get out. On the distance question, there are 2 Embassy Suites, one that is called the "airport" hotel, and the other one the "convention center." They're both about a 5-10 minute drive, depending on traffic. Make a right onto Flamingo from the exit, do a U-turn at the light, and then turn right onto Paradise Rd. for the "airport" hotel or left for the "convention center" hotel. Very easy.

I think the Westin is just fine as a business hotel in LAS. One minor plus (to me) is the fact that the Weather Channel is a local version. I hate it when I'm watching it in some hotel room and just when they announce "here's your local forcast"... you get that generic list of temps across the county.

I had a terrible stay there in March. Does anyone know the address of the GM? I'd like to drop him an email... Not a bad facility, but I'd defintely stay elsewhere for the money in Vegas. This is, I believe, a franchise property, and there have definitely been some branding/compliance issues based on what my contacts at Starwood tell me.

My stay in March was way below expectations, the day I checked in it was my birthday, and wanting to stay at the Venetian or Bellaggio, but being the loyal SPG platinum member I chose the Westin, HUGE MISTAKE! the General Managers name is Tom Haygreen, make sure you write him and explain your concerns, I sure did.

I was at the Westin in March for a conference held at Ceasars Palace. I won't go into all the problems with my stay - I sent a three page letter to SPC Customer Care who informed me that it would be forwarded to the hotel GM. I was compensated with points (which I didn's ask for, but appreciated) but never got any response from the hotel or customer service.

Would I go back? To be honest, I'd probably give it another try just for the heavenly bed and the 5 minute trip from the car to my room.
