Crazy as it sounds. I showed up at 11:25 AM this morning with my wife to check in for a two night stay. We both planned to use the room over the next two night as we are both flying in and out and in and out of EWR.
Imagine my surprise when I was told we could only get a room if I paid $35 for early check in, which was before 12 noon. When I asked if this was a Four Points national policy or a local one, I got gibberish. When I pointed out that both my wife and I are SPG Plats, more gibberish. At this point I had to get my wife to to airport for an approaching flight, so I dropped her off, and retuned at 12:05, and of course there was no problem checking in, although the blonde original woman I talked to had left (thank goodness). And, I had to run, so no chance to ask for the manager, but at the very least will write a my first negative letter to SPG customer service.
Absolutely crazy.

Write the letter to Hotel Customer Service. SPG had nothing to do with it. :)

Address is on the sticky at the top of the forum.

I have stayed here in the past and it is a total dump....I would stay away at all costs. Go to the Wyndham across the way for about the same price.

Or even the Sheraton EWR on the other side! ;)

Yes, this place is no SPG "showcase" property! :)

Sorry to hear of this issue! :(

All the best,

Mark

Jeez, what's with these silly charges that are popping up in SPG hotels these days? Are employees resorting to scams and bribes?

This is a very bad hotel.

I stayed just once and I called the Platinum line after being in the room 2 minutes.

The room was filthy. The bed linens were extremely cheap and looked as if they had not been changed after the last guest.

I would have switched hotels but it was 1:00 am and I just arrived from Europe. I wore my clothes in the bed as the cleanliness was suspect.

This property deserves to be a Days Inn not a Starwood.
