A New York-based start-up company plans to launch a Web service in September that will allow users to compare prices and options on travel Web sites.

FareChase said it will enable consumers to save time and money by finding the best and cheapest options for airline tickets, hotel rooms, and auto rentals without having to go to multiple sites.

``FareChase is not an online travel supplier and does not sell anything,'' Motti Kirschenbaum, co-founder and chairman, said in a statement.

``By applying real-time data mining and analysis capabilities, we track the best long-term or last-minute fares on the web for the user's specific travel requirements.'' FareChase said it has the first technology that performs large-scale, real-time searches for travel data. Results are returned within ``a few seconds'' and the site will not bias towards any particular travel vendor, the company said.

no kidding! What I think would be a great feature is go also allow you to compare rates from other airports within X distance. In my case, I can easily fly from either GSO or CLT. But to check fares, I have to go to the airlines' sites, then expedia or wherever, and each time enter each airport option.. takes forever..

There is such a site already. I will try not to sound too biased, but a couple of my friends are involved in it. It's called www.QIXO.com (http://www.QIXO.com) (tricky spedlling...)

www.farechase.com (http://www.farechase.com) is indeed up and running. I ran across it this evening while looking for something else.

The idea is great, but....
it is slooowwww. And the "i" (more information) buttons were responding with inappropriate information. I asked for more information on an AA plan and it responded with DL flight numbers.

Ahhh.....what is software without bugs.

Neither QIXO nor Farechase list fares offered only on the airline websites, i.e., Internet-only fares.

I've tested both of them and I consistenly find better prices offered elsewhere (albeit with some searching).

Doesn't pass my test http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

But do they award you the FF miles? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Without the bonus miles for booking on the airline's own website, where the lower fares are typically found.

I beta-tested a new travel search product a few weeks ago that I think you all will really like. They asked me not to talk about it until November 13th, so I can't say more right now.
