Qantas Frequent Flyer - J pax on domestic sectors operated by International a/c

Do I understand correctly that if I am ticketed in J on a MEL-SYD sector operated by and international 747 I will be sitting in F cabin?

My scenario is - am ticketed in D LHR-MEL, MEL-SYD. I am taking QF10 LHR-MEL. I don't want to clear customs in MEL so want to take another international flight number MEL-SYD and then clear customs in SYD.

Unless I want to wait far too long in MEL my only option on Aug 12 is QF10. I don't want to get a BP in LHR for LHR-SYD (as it is one flight number) and miss out on the miles/SCs from separate LHR-MEL and MEL-SYD. Now if J pax on domestic sector of QF10 sit in the F cabin, I should not have a problem asking for separate BPs as my seat will change (from 11A to something in rows 1-5). Correct?

I have never heard of such a proposition and in fact if I was flying F say from SIN-SYD via MEL (bearing in mind there is no F non-stop SIN-SYD with an evening departure) I would be most upset at all the domestic J plebs being in my cabin.

With your situation of being ticketed LHR-MEL MEL-SYD there is no reason that you would not get two boarding passes (and points & SCs) as ticketed - it is incidental that it is the same numbered service. You probably could even stay in the same seat if it is a good one.

If your proposition is correct, I further doubt BA's LHR check in staff would give you a F BP for a J ticket and in fact you would be advised to proceed to the transfer desk in MEL for your F BP - but as stated I doubt the truth of the proposition

It *does* happen, but normally only for purely domestic passengers. The reason for this is that QF only operates one or two flights a day SYD-MEL with an F cabin, so the published F fare is the same as the published J fare, and on a flight of this length, the points and SC's are the same regardless of whether it is F or J.

So for a purely SYD-MEL (or vice-versa) booking, there is no difference, if they can put you in the F cabin they will, if not, then they won't.

Where it gets complicated is in your case, where you have a booking from another port. I would imagine (if *I* was doing the check-in) that I would keep you in the J cabin, since this is what you paid for.

Although, on a brighter note, QF do not sell QF10 LHR-SYD, only LHR-SIN and LHR-MEL, so if you want to use QF10 MEL-SYD it would need to be on a seperate coupon, and this might allay some of your concerns.

Only probably at check-in. You can buy an F ticket from MEL-SYD at the same price as the J ticket, and that will get you into the F cabin.

QF10 and QF2 are sold as 3-class for the entire journey.
