US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - Miles to Upgrade

I'm sure you guys have plenty of experience with this. Here's my dilemma: I hope to fly with my daughter PHL-FRA in early November. Only premium/envoy awards available on my dates. If I book her an envoy award, then purchase a coach seat for myself, I'd like to upgrade myself to envoy. What are my chances, and how many miles will it take? Unfortunately, no systemwide upgrade certs this year...sigh.
Thanks for your help.

Call the DMSC now. If an Envoy award seat is available, make sure there is enough R inventory to accomodate a mileage upgrade from a purchased fare as well. Do not book unless there is R inventory on your chosen dates, unless you want to be stuck in waitlist limbo. Cost for mileage upgrades to Europe is 10,000 each way for Y and B fares, 30,000 each way for M, H, K, Q and V.

Thanks for the suggestion. Can you point me to any information explaining the different classes? It's all alphabet soup to me.
I'm off to scout out your link.

What is "R inventory?"
What is "R inventory?"
Sorry, should have been more specific. "R" is the booking class for any coach ticket that is upgraded to Envoy. There are only a limited number of "R seats" per flight, hence the need to make sure it's still available before you book. HTH!

Thanks, it does help! Perhaps I'll call and hope for a friendly agent on the phone. :)

The first letter of the fare basis is the class that you are booked in. It sould also show on your ticket somewhere. If you are in doubt, just call US and they will be able to tell you what class you are in.

Gret, you can try this link too....it will show you the fare buckets available. If you want a translation of what they mean, you can search this forum for "fare codes" or something and there's an old thread that summarizes them all - they're apparently different from airline to airline too.
