Travel Technology - Motorola V600 VS Nokia

I really dislike my V600. The quality of the pictures are terrible, I don't like the layout of the phone book and a list of things I don't like that goes on. I do like the fact that it is a quad band. However the call reception is bad and I find I have a lot of dropped calls with this phone.
I have a Nokia 3650 that takes great pictures and video. I love the phone book layout. This phone is a tri band and I have traveled all over with it and it's worked fine. But I dislike the size and dial pad layout. Who thought that one up?
Any suggestions out there?

Get the 3660 (a 3650 with better display and normal keypad) or the business version of the 36XX, the 6600.

Yes I have seen the 3660, but I believe when they revised the version of the 3650 and made the 3660 the took away some of the functions I like. Also I think the 3660 is NOT a tri-band. I will have to check on that, maybe someone else knows? There is still the problem with the size of the phone. It's way to big and bulky. :(

Yes it is tri-band, and no, they didn't remove any features. It's the same phone, with a better screen and a better keypad.
But seriously, check out the 6600.

The 3660 doesn't address the size issue though. (That's the main thing I hate about my 3650; the keypad doesn't bug me that much.) What you really want is probably something like the new 6260, which takes all the 3660 features and puts them into a flip phone, but you'll have to wait months (read: probably next year for T-Mo in the US  ) to get that.
The 6600 did get it a bit smaller I guess, though it seems wide to me somehow. (I've never really compared them side by side.)

The 6600 is a lot smaller. I got one two weeks ago and really like it. It is a great phone and has great data features.

At least in the US RF performance is a real issue with GSM phones because the coverage is not as good as in Europe. The Nokia 6600 is above average in RF performance. SE phones in the recent past (T68 onward) have been average to far below average. I personally wouldnt consider an SE phone because of that.

Well,
I agree with posters about the v600 - its UI sucks BIG-TIME! It's phonebook sucks BIGGER! It's Bluetooth implementation sucks BIGGEST! But guess what? It's a phone 1st and foremost, and I can tell ya - it ROCKS as far as RF strength is concerned, at least in the metro areas I travel to. I've NEVER owned a phone that consistently provides >4 bars most of the time. It works in most subways, elevators, department stores (why DO they have such losey RF there anyways??) etc.
Maybe it's the places I travel to, or my needs being different that anybody else's but I love this phone. I also love the fact that it's a flip phone - I just find those better to use. I use Bluetooth very frequently, so that's a big + in my book.
However, there have been numerous quality problems discovered with the v600. Visit ww.howardforums.com to read some horror stories about the v600! Sadly I have experienced some of my own problems with screen scratches and so on. But I still love this as my primary PHONE! I use a camera for pictures, and a PDA/Laptop for personal organization. If you're just looking for a phone, give this some thought!

Well, I just picked up a v600 a couple of days ago.
As for it's primary purpose I can honestly say that it has the clearest sound and best overall reception quality of any phone I have had relative to each network.
Are there phones with better quality cameras? Perhaps but if this had been an optional feature on the v600 I would have left it off.
GUI? Could be much better but once you get it down it works just fine IMHO.
As for Bluetooth...I have had no problems. It has worked great with my laptop's wireless card and with the Linksys and Belkin USB Bluetooth adapters that I have.
The key with Bluetooth is...you have to know what you are doing. ;)
I have uploaded music, games, photos, etc. with no problem...and Cingular doesn't get to charge me $1.99 each time.
Also, the battery seems to have respectable usage times particularly considering its small size.
As for everything else; we shall see as time goes on. I still think that so far it is the best phone overall available in the U.S.
Speaker phone: freaking marvelous.
Full-motion video: acceptable.
Edited to add:
One more thing, all v600's from Cingular come unlocked... ;)

Ditto with the V400, aside from the BT.
I'd pay EXTRA for a v400 with NO F*****G camera. Lose the camera and this is the phone of my dreams.
Cingular sells it unlocked.

I got a V600 from Orange a few weeks ago and I agree that it rocks. I haven't had any problems so far. I used it in LA for a couple of weeks with an AT&T SIM and it worked far better than my previous single band Nokia. Either I was using the new 850 band more or the phone just performs better.
The only problem I have with the V600 is the crummy UI, but I'll just have to deal with it.

What does UI mean?
G. U. I.
Graphic[al] User Interface
Think of the icons, file folders, color schemes, click-right click options etc. of WindowsXP and MacOSX. It is what you see and how you navigate the desktop environment, how one gets around and manipulates the operating system.

Thanks for that piece of information anrkitec!
Just an update my husband also has the Motorola V600 and the other day it cracked. even though he treats it with care. It's cracked right by the flip opening area. I guess this is a common problem. Which I found out after reading about it on the howard forum message boards. We really are NOT happy with our V600's and we are past our 30 day trial period with AT&T. One other thing this is his third V600 the first two had problems so he took the first two back and ATT exchanged it for another V600. But now that it's cracked what do we do?

Same problems as with the V300... Motorola has had serious quality problems ever since they outsourced all their products...

A friend has the SonyEricsson Z600 which is a comparable flip phone to the Moto. He loves it. It apparently doesnt have the receptions issues that some of the other SE phones have.

I love my nokia 3650. What a waste of money buying TWO Motorola V600's. I just had to have one. Now I never use it.

Is this question serious or sarcastic? Honestly, I could not tell.
If it was a serious question then, yes, I was serious.

In DC, the two best networks seem to be Verizon and ATT. Verizon has no 21c phones. ATT seems to have only 3 bluetooth phones. DC now requires headset in a car, so bluetooth is a nice feature.
Ericsson T637, Nokia 6820, and the fabulous Motorola V600.
The Motorola sounds like "why buy a problem"
My wife has a 6820, likes it very much, and has learned the phone.
Any comments about the T637?
How do I get a nokia 6600 for ATT or verizon, when it is not offered in this area?

Is it just the V600's sold by AT&T or sold in the US that crack? I bought mine in France from Orange and it's still working fine. I've even dropped it a couple of times and I put it in my pants pocket usually. No cracks.
