Just got off the phone with a representative on the Silver Pref service center. He said that F16 for the 757 is a go. ^

^ ...its about time ;)

But seriously...I wonder how much money they spent just to reconfigure the 757s to F8. Now they have to undo the damage.

I wouldn't be so sure--I don't think the final decision has been made yet. Most reps at Chairmans I have spoken with however think it's going to happen.

It would make sense to do it.

Time will tell.

Don't rush to conclusions is right....

Some folks over on avaiation.com are saying that they might reduce the A-321's FC cabin as well. That speculation ( and it is just that...) is buried in a thread over there or I'd post a link...

If they reduce it to something reasonable like 16 seats then I'm all for it. First class service suffers from such a large cabin.

FC service "suffers"? No way. I don't buy that for a minute.

US Airways domestic FC sucks because that's how they've set it up and that's how they've catered it. Cheap plastic, marginal food, and now, unfortunately, the wear and tear of an airline on the brink is taking its toll on some very good flight crews and the in flight attitude is deteriorating. *THAT* is why US's FC service suffers.

I'm all for US maximizing revenue. They absolutely should configure their aircraft appropriately for where the crowd is going. Their mistake, IMO, is that if they eliminate that which differentiates them from the LCC's of the world (SW, JetBlue and AirTran) then exactly whay is it that US offers that should entice us to fly them?

US used to have great FC service, regardless of the seat count. It's the combination of staffing the FAA minimum and the cuts that Geo mentions that have killed it.

I don't think cutting the FC section in the 321 will cut it. US will lose a goodly amount of their transcon business right off the bat. If you want the good stuff, take an AA or UA 3 class and connect. If you want the cheap, take LUV. Without a differentiation from either, US is further eroding what little revenue premium and/or loyalty premium it still commands.

I don't buy that either. I've noticed this weekend on transcon A321's that one of the 3 coach FA's help out with the meal preparation. As well this past Sunday PHl-LAX A320 a coach stewart even helped out serving pre-takeoff drinks while on the ground. I thought this was a thing of the past but maybe US has a refound commitment to FC service. I look foward to PHL-LAS 757 F16 or higher. :p They have lost a great deal of my business to HP for lack of upgrades on this route.

Agreed. I've taken HP twice and put up with sea-green leather seats for 5 hours to LAS rather than take my chances on US. Odd, though, is that HP's 757 has 14 seats in F.

LOL! These guys are a trip. Remember the old joke about re-arranging the deck chairs on the titanic? These guys are going to be shrinking, expanding, shrinking, expanding the seat count in F Class until the last day.

At the end of the day, they could have catered each flight with crystal and gold-plated silverware for less

I've had three PHL-LAX-PHL trips this month and all six segments, we didn't so much as get a bottle of water before the flight. With weather and congestion last week, we sat in FC for over 3 hours before we were offered a drink. It was ridiculous! And during the gate hold, the f/a chatted up the pilots on the flightdeck and when they kicked her out, she sat down with a magazine. Nevermind the entire cabin went without even water.

When FC is over half full on the 321, the 4th F/A must assist the lead with FC, when it is under half full, it is up to them to decide whether the extra help is needed or not, depending on service levels, length of flight, and load of coach.

With regards to the water on the 321, I think that CLT crews, as a rule, NEVER even give out water prior to departure, even if there is a long taxi, ground hold, etc. I was once one of 6 people on a 321 in F and we had a 35 min taxi in CLT and we got nil. Never had a problem with DCA, PHL, and PIT crews. (Never get a LGA or BOS crew out west)

Booked in F on US next week. Haven't flown them since it was Piedmont! (Boy do I miss them!)

Anyway... I've gathered that US doesn't even serve coffee in real cups or wine in glasses in first class anymore. Is that true? I'm flying DCA-CLT-LAX.

My first 2 thoughts about the title before reading the posts:

1. US Airways is not getting into the defense business by buying F-16 fighter jets.

2. Robert Redford in "Spy Game".
RR: Dinner out is a go.
CIA man overhearing RR's telephone conversation: Who talks to his wife like that?
CIA man #2: Why do you think his wives keep dumping him?

Those who have seen the film may laugh.

Sad but true. They only use glass on transatlantic flights. Have a nice cup of wine with dinner.

Correction. Make that a nice cup of wine with a small snack/lunch. No one would call half a salad or a small sandwich "dinner".

I was on CLT-LAX in F on a 321 and received a pre-poured cup of water prior to departure...F was full. I thought it was a nice gesture. However, the champers was not cold. :td:

If they move 757 to F16, won't they have to pull out 3 rows of Y to fit in 2 rows of F? Part of moving down to F8 was that they could get 5 Y rows where 4 F rows were removed. A majority of the benefit would be lost - only 4 extra seats from the original F24 design, instead of the 12 extra they get right now at F8.

They also cut F/As from 6 to 4 when they changed F24 to F8.
