Hilton HHonors - Hilton Garden Inn Las Vegas Strip South

Some positive news for Hhonors members who have to visit Vegas and ( who claim to, anyway) hate casinos, a new Hilton Garden Inn to open early October. Location at south end of strip just past Mandalay Bay ( I believe).

I like HGIs since they are all new, are “predictable” and since I only eat breakfast in Hiltons ( have yet to stay in a Hilton anywhere in the world with a more than “fair” restaurant) generally meets my requirements/expectations.

Personally, I will still continue to stay at Paris.

Now how about an opening date for the new LV Conrad?

Thanks for the info! I'll keep looking in the next few months, as I have to go to LV in december for a convention.

Update from hilton website:

This hotel is scheduled to open November 19, 2004. We will be taking online reservations soon. For immediate reservation requests, please contact the hotel directly at 702-453-7830

It seems to be within a short drive from the strip (near Belz outlet). Good to see another option for hotel hopping in Vegas.

I like HGI, too. Thanks for the post!

Does anyone have a report on this property yet?
I am scheduled to go to LV soon and have both the HGI at $89 and the hilton on points and am not sure which I should choose.
Any opinions there.
I have stayed at the hilton many moons ago and it was a bit far from the strip but I understand that there is a train now.

The Las Vegas monorail (http://www.lvmonorail.com/) closed for a time, but presumably re-opened December 24. A one day pass is US$10, a one ride pass is $3. There is a station at the LV Hilton.

I suspect you will find transport easier from the Hilton to the strip, now that the monorail is back on track, but others who know better may advise differently. (My choice is usually the Embassu Suites "Convention Centre", whic is not AT the centre, but rather within a walk of it.)

Stayed there twice last week. Excellent property. Great breakfast. Was upgraded both times to a Jr. Suite. Manager came out and introduced herself and gave me her card. Would highly recommend. ^

I have Stayed 6 times so far this year. Very nice and I liked the location, near the airport and could go anywhere without having to go down the strip. They do have a shuttle to the strip if you want. You will need a rental car for the most part, a gas station and a couple of restaurants are within walking distance. It is near the freeway ramp. It has a small gym and nice breakfast area. They usually had a small meeting or something their. I was upgraded to a suite 4 of the 6 times and one of those was during Comdex week. Prices can be higher then the Hilton $99 if not sold out versus $129 at the HGI 1- 30 days out.

Agree on all counts.

My rate, btw, was $89 AAA.

It is nice to see another option near the strip in Vegas but I am surprised that the price point would be more then that of the Las Vegas Hilton which is bigger presumably and on the monorail line.

I think that the two properties aim at different audiences. The HGI is great for me: I don't want to be on the Strip and I don't want to have to deal with the traffic and parkng hassles (or exorbitant cabfare) and I like the fact that the HGI is a brand-new property with very nice upgraded (or regular) rooms with free breakfast and internet. It's also all of 5 minutes from room to airport.

Does the HGI have a courtesy airport van?

I know they have two vans that will take you to the MGM. I believe they also go to the airport, but am unsure of hours.

Yes. Every 30 minutes, iirc.

Yes. Every 30 minutes, iirc.

I was told that they don't run a 30 minute schedule. You have to call them for a pick up, which I did the two times I stayed there since they opened, although both times I was arriving very late at night.

They have both free wired and wireless internet connection and my favorite and something you rarely find in hotels (especially in Vegas) an extensive number of TV stations to watch. I am a channel surfer and they have the full compliment of cable TV stations--the same that I have on my home cable. That is something rare at a hotel.

There was a sign on the desk for to-the-airport shuttle that said something about every 30 minutes. But have no idea about from-the-airport shuttle.

Thanks for the info in this thread. Has anyone stayed both at this property and the Doubletree Club Airport Las Vegas? How do these two compare? Thanks in advance for your advice.

What is there to compare? HGI is brand new. I have never been able to afford a stay at HGI. DT works for me and actually prefer the breakfast versus the typical HGI breakfast.

I've stayed at both properties several times.

The HGI is typically $25 - $30.00 more expensive. The pool area, workout room and entire facility is much nicer than the Doubletree. The staff is extremely helpful and they treat their guests very well. The breakfast voucher for Gold/Diamond is for a full cooked to order breakfast. Great service, nice dining area, good food. Friendly bar area for the evening as well as a very large living room with fireplace to enjoy in the evening.

The Doubletree restaurant is absolutely horrendous. We ate there a couple of times and now never eat there even though it is free. The pool is fine, the workout room is o.k. - just not as nice as the HGI. There is an Applebee's restaurant right outside the parking lot.

For one night we might choose the DT if the price is considerably lower. But if more than one night we would go to the HGI. Unless we need to be on that south end of town we have been taking advantage of the Hampton Inn Summerlin. They are an opportunity level hotel. 7500 points is so much better than spending money.

The Hampton/Summerlin by the way is typical - do ask for a room that is not near the highway as there is some highway noise.

I'm staying here tonight. Up to now a nice property, obviously a bit off from the buzz of vegas but the strip is only a 5-10 minute drive anyways and the nearby location of the rental car and airport is a definite plus.

As a gold got upgraded to a suite which includes a bubble/jet bath, seperate living room. A total of two tvs. Staff at the front desk are extremely friendly. Still some light construction work going on, but those are mainly finishing touches and bearly noticeable. The pool is small but adequate and didn't see anybody there during the day.

Overall it's your typical HGI hotel. 2 bottles given at checkin with a breakfast coupon which wasn't filled out. I guess you could use it anytime if you wanted to be sneaky. The business centre is small but includes a color printer. If you're in vegas and don't mind the off-strip location, but prefer a more personal touch then give the HGI a try.

We love that location, although you should probably have a car for maximum convenience. The entire staff is friendly, the hotel is clean and being off the strip means little traffic if you take the highway.

Note: This hotel is no longer a total secret; prices are definitely going up.

Agree. It's a gem. Two years ago I could routinely book it for 1/2 the price it fetches now.

The first year it it was a real bargain but now it is a little pricey. Of course most LV hotels have ceased to have bargain rates anymore.
