With the current uncertainty on USAirway's future, I'm looking for recommendations for transferring several hundred thousand miles.

I think my options are:
- AMEX Membership Rewards
- United
- Hotels - Marriott, HolidayInn, Hilton
- Points.com - interesting, but doesn't appear conversion ratios are all that great

Also, does anyone know how FF balances are treated if a merger or worse occurs (Eastern? PanAm? TWA?).

Thanks in advance.

To the best of my knowledge, AMEX MR only lets you transfer to airlines, not from airlines. You can't transfer US miles to UA miles. I don't know of any hotel programs that let you transfer US miles, but there may be one or two out there. If you do points.com, as you mentioned, the converstion rate is horrible.

As for your second point, there has been a lot of speculation of what will happen to existing US miles, but it sounds like the general consensus is that we just don't know. Some are bailing, some are staying. I happen to be in the staying camp. Whatever you decide, may it be the best for you.
