California - Remembering why I live in San Diego . . .

This was one of those postcard perfect chamber of commerce days in sweet home San Diego. Absolutely gorgeous weather, warm water, surfing and relaxing at the beach.

I was remembering when I didn't live here, for the first 30 years of my life, how every time I came through, I would wish I could live in a place like this.

My wish came true over 25 years ago. I love to travel, but a day like today really makes me remember why I decided to live here when I got the chance. I'm a fortunate guy. :D

Remember...San Diego is just another suburb of Los Angeles.

I would disagree with you there. The air is much better and the lifestyle is an easier pace. Even though traffic has become more of a nightmare over the years, I'll take it over LA's any day.

My son and daughter-in-law met and fell in love at UCSD. They adored San Diego, but, ultimately returned to Los Angeles ;)

Remember...San Diego is just another suburb of Los Angeles.

I lived in Pasadena, a suburb of LA, for two years and I can assure you it is nothing like San Diego.

Pasadena - horrible smog, horrendous traffic in every direction, long distances to anything interesting or worthwhile (especially the beach)

San Diego - very little smog, much less traffic, most things relative close to each other

San Diego is much nicer than LA. Better public transportation, the beaches aren't dirty, less traffic. SD has a ton of great neighborhoods and areas, and you can get between them easily and in less than 2 hours, unlike LA. And if you get bored, there's always TJ or Gaslamp. People tend to be much more friendly and laid-back as well. SD is a city that doesn't really feel like one, which is why it's so great! I completely agree with you, hiyosilverwings, and I even grew up nearby in Orange County.

that is good as it is your life, but IMO just shoot me now if I had to live there, I'll take the distinct seasons that I enjoy in Chicago anyday.

We get to your wonderful city at least once a year, this year in July for the opening of Millennium Park and a Clapton concert, and agree, it is one of the world's great cities.

Left coasters can sometimes think there is not much going on between here and the east coast, and we are quick to bring up Chicago as a real destination city.

I must say that the Chicagoans we have met are usually surprised when they hear we are from the coast. And our friends here sometimes wonder why we would go to Chicago instead of New York. Well, the answer is, we go to New York as well, but anyone who misses seeing Chicago is really missing out.

We are actually Cubs fans! Best games I have ever seen were at the friendly confines. Next year! And the Art Institute is second to none. We love your city. Great architecture, restaurants, clubs, wonderful public transit.

But this is a thread about San Diego, and it is a radiant, sparkling day, the city is gleaming, everything is green after the rains, and people are outside everywhere enjoying the day. We had dinner in a fine restaurant last night, are taking in the Zoo today, and will be out on our niece's jet boat tomorrow. I just winterized our cars, which means I looked at the windshield wiper blades. I love visiting places where there is a real change of seasons, but . . .

And, oh yeah, provincialism, no matter where one is from, is still small-minded. IMO, of course.

It's another glorious day in paradise. The sun is dancing off the ocean water, the sky is blue, the air is warm. Life is good!

Well I must admit that San Diego is my favorite city . But today in PHX is why we put up with the summer - low 80's , sunshine, no smog and little traffic ;)
