Starwood Preferred Guest - video checkout bonus

I have stayed at Sheratons recently and been awarded 500 bonus points for using the in-room video checkout. I can't see a post for this <sorry if I scanned too quickly> but thought it is worthwhile to post.

Like everything else at SpG, its probably targeted

My last Sheraton stay I didn't receive one and the stay before that video checkout wasn't working. Have another one this weekend though.

I encountered this at the Reston Sheraton at IAD ... not only did you get the bonus, your name was entered into a drawing for (I think it was) 10k bonus points...

Of course, there were some charges on my bill that stay that I needed split out of my company bill, so I couldn't use it! :mad:

My recent Sheraton stay ended with the TV displaying: "Video Checkout is unavailable. Please contact the front desk." I guess no points for me. :(

I tried checking out, selected the "email my receipt" option, and the TV wanted me to use a keyboard (not in the room) to provide the address. There is no "back" button, so when I went to the front desk they could see that I had attempted the checkout, and they posted the points manually. They showed up in my account.

This was at the Sheraton in Sunnyvale. But it was for a chance to win 1000 in a monthly draw for checking out online. Sadly my keyboard was out of batteries and jammed up the whole system. Make sure your keyboard works before starting the check out, or its no points for you. :rolleyes:

i don't know if it's bad luck, but in the past two years i have never been in a hotel/room in which the video checkout worked. was in the westin seattle two weekends ago....didn't work.

You can review your bill almost anytime, but the ability to check-out seems to come and go with the time of day. From like 5am to 12noon it seems to be possible to check-out using the TV in your room. But when I go to use it when I'm taking advantage of my Platinum extended check-out privilege, the option is either not there, or when I attempt it, it bombs out and tells me it's not available and to go to the front desk.

Like I said this happens at some hotels, but not all.

The Sheraton Inn Lexington, MA has been offereing 250 bonus points for using video check-out and doing the survey for quite some time now. Only once has it worked for me though, but the front desk has always posted them manuall for my "attempt" to do the survey.

yeah, a lot of times i will call Service Express and ask why video checkout isn't working and they give me the same excuse...only available during certain hours. they never have a good reason for why that is the case.

Wonder if we could use the Sheraton Promise if Video check-out does not work?

In my last six stays Video Checkout has worked ZERO out of six times.

It has never worked at the Westin Times Squrae.

The hotel should post a message "Video checkout will not be available from this time to this time."

I love gadgets, so I try to use video checkout whenever I can. But as in Catman's case, I can't remember when it was the last time video checkout actually worked at a *wood property. Can't be that hard to get running smoothly, right? Considering video checkout has been around for so long... :rolleyes:

1) why can't you use spg50 certificates on spg.com?
