I'd like to get your opinion's on a offer letter I got from Starwood Vacations. For $849 + ($15 daily resort fee) they offered the following :

6 Days / 5Nights at the Sheraton Maui
$100 Resort Cert
$185 Avis Rental Cert

18 Months from acceptance to use this offer. It seems to be refundable and changable ($25 fee). No mention of any time share presentation

I'm thinking of accepting this offer. Is this a good value ? I'd got 2 kids (1 is 3 mths old & the other is 2 years old), will this be a good family hotel ?Your thoughts please !

I'd add in the resort fee, back out the resort check and divide by five to get ther per night rate. I don't know about the rental car, but that sounds like a nice benefit. For now though, let's just focus on the hotel.

I picked some dates in July and the nightly rate was $320.00. I think your first step is to pick some dates, see if they have availability at the rate they're quoting you, then do a comparison via spg.com, travelaxe.net (downloadable app) and a site like Orbitz. Perhaps there are blackout dates?

Also, does the rate earn points? That is likely a minor consideration unless the effective rate they are offering is close to a rate you could otherwise obtain.

Personally, the rate looks very good to me. It might look better if it were for the Westin, which I think is a nicer property and located right down the beach.

So that's my advice...pick dates, verify availability under this rate, then verify the rack rate.

I've been watching this one, but no additional response. I'd be curious to know what you decided and learned in researching if you don't mind sharing. Also, what is this promo and where did you run across it?

Seems to be a reasonable offer. I recently book a trip to the Sheraton Maui through Priceline. I received a rate of $140/night plus tax and resort fee.

We have found this be a great location for families. A great beach and Sheraton guests can use the Westin pool a short walk away. Our kids, age 7 and 5, enjoyed the Westin pool because of the slides and waterfalls. The Sheraton pool has a good toddler pool.

This offer is one of several offered by Ka'anapali Ocean Resort in an effort to get potential timeshare customers to the island. The price of the offer varies between about $550 and the rate you were quoted. The lower rates require sitting through the obligatory 90-minute presentation whereas the higher-priced offers do not. You will likely be given the option of attending such a presentation to earn additional resort credits/SPG points.

The offer likely originated from an acquaintance of yours who bought at KOR putting your name on a list of potential timeshare candidates to receive the mailing or simply through the Starwood marketing system doing its job.

In any event, it's a great offer if you like what Maui has to offer: whale watching, great food, great beaches, Haleakala volcano, Io Valley, the road to Hana and a laid back attitude. But then these aren't for everyone.
