Starwood Preferred Guest - Feather blankets on Sweet Sleeper Beds too hot

Are there other people that do not like having a down filled blanket on their bed? Not the bedspread, the blanket. It is too hot for me even if the air is turned down to make the room very cold. Many of the European hotels I stay at have this as well. If there is a fleece blanket in the closet I take the feather blanket off and put on the fleece. I sometimes have housekeeping do it. If I elect to keep the feather blanket on, I will not sleep well.

You are only dealing with 3-4 layers, including the down duvet.... ;)

Try sleeping in the Westin Heavenly Bed at the Westin KUL.....I ripped off the 6-7 layers on the bed and slept with a bed sheet only. Apparently, the Heavenly Bed in KUL was more like a Heated Bed that gave me nothing but nightmare... :D

Nice problem to have, though. :)

I have a nice arrangement with housekeeping. Every night, I kick the blankets off the bed and every morning, they neatly put them back on the bed.

:)

I'm always hot at night, so just a bedsheet usually does it, unless the AC works really well.

It never ceases to amaze me what people can find to complain about! You folks who can't stand the European-style bed linens should simply opt for the 4 Points brand before they too start getting the fabulous bedding Westins and now Sheratons have become famous for.

The beds are comfortable, the linen great. So, don't reword the thread. Why does one need a down filled blanket at a Phoenix property in July? If this is too hot, what are the options? Sleep with only a sheet, make the bed yourself, call housekeeping? I have been moving my business to the *Wood this year. However, as I try different *Wood properties the "blanket" hasle irritaes me, I can't sleep with it. Should one take their $12K per year elsewhere (not you though since Gold's only stay between 15-25 stays per year) or look for a solution. I seldom do 4PT's as Hilton has a better lower end product.

I want to stay at *Wood's this year because their reward program is the best right now. Just need to work through the feather blanket issue. Since the rates are $100-$225, for me, I will have housekeeping make the bed the way I want it, unless there is a better way.

It's all a matter of opinion and preferences. While I do think that some Starwood Hotels go above and beyond trying to keep all customers happy, I don't think that every hotel in the Starwood chain that you are frequenting is going to make one bed in the hotel just the way you want it. I don't see what the big deal is about not using a blanket that you find too hot. I have found a lot of comforter patterns too busy, sheets too scratchy, lights too bright....but IMO those things are an integral part to certain hotels/chains and I don't generally complain about them (i.e. I've seen lots of whining about Ws being too dark, too modern).

Just don't use the blanket.

I so much prefer the Westin/Sheraton style bed to the nasty a** skanky wool blankets covered by flimsy sheets used at other, lesser, hotels. I cannot sleep at those properties as all I can do is imagine the (likely) disgusting person who used that blanket before me. If I wake up and realize that any part of me made contact with me, I run into the shower.

I am overstating things a bit, but the Westin/Sheraton set-up is so much more hygenic than those horrific blankets.

They're too hot for me too, but I usually just pull out the down deal out of the sheet sleeve and pull the spare blanket out of the closet or drawer, or call housekeeping for one. The weight I don't mind, but the heat I do.

Earlier today I left the Sheraton Anaheim. While there they had a display case outside the door of the gift shop that was selling the various components of the Sheraton Sweet Sleeper bed, and inside the gift shop an even bigger glass case selling just about everything but the mattress.

I don't know what was stranger...seeing this stuff out "on sale" in the gift shop...or me taking pictures of it!! ;)

PrexEx, did I read that right, $20 for Queen sheets? Is that new or used?

They all looked brand spanking new to me. In fact, the hotel is only about 25% into the installation of the Sweet Sleeper beds, so I doubt they are used. Sorry I didn't get a shot of the other price list.

I thought the $28.50 was pretty reasonable for the "S" pillow too.

I suppose it could be possible that these cases contain a mix of Sweet Sleeper and pre-SS goods, and the $20 Queen sheets are new sets of the pre-SS sheets. I don't know.

It did seem a bit odd to me that they were selling these things in such a blatant on-the-shelf manner. I certainly don't object to it, but it is the first time I've seen it at a Sheraton. Maybe someone over-ordered by mistake and now they're just trying to recoup some cash?

I will say that this hotel has always had an exemplary gift shop. I think they operate it, not some WH Smith or something. Very broad selection. They even have their own Sheraton Anaheim logowear and such. So I guess I shouldn't be too surprised.

Doubt they ship, however. If you want 'em, you may have to come visit. ;)

The feather pillows are great. I'm not sure $52 is good, maybe?

PremEx,
Knowing that someone at your level has the same experience is a releif to me. Sometimes we wonder if we are alone in our experiences. I have been making the bed over as you described. It only takes a few minutes. I'll feel a lot better about doing it the future kknowing it is a way of life on-the-road.

I have been making the bed over as you described.

One thing I have noticed on multiple-night stays where I have done this, is that the next day the maids usually have re-made your bed without the down thing, having stored it in the closet, which I really appreciate so I don't have to go through the whole strip-down routine again.

This has happened many, many times. So it's likely we are not the only ones that do this, as the maids seem to experience this often and have developed an SOP of reconfiguring your bed for you, when they see the signs. :)

I'll tell you a funny thing about the stays when I'm not traveling solo, and where I'm sharing a King Sweet Sleeper with my ladyfriend, which is a whole different challenge in configuration and individual comfort. She likes the heavy down thing. That's what she says. But every time I wake up in the middle of the night to go pee or something, I look over and there she is lying on top of the bed with no bed covering at all! She's kicked it all off! So she must be baking too, and semi-consciously she kicks all the bedding off to cool down at some point during the night. :) In the morning as she awakes in a daze she grabs all the covers and pulls them back up. Later when I mention to her that she slept the night without covers...she never believes me! I'll have to shoot some video "proof" next time. ;)

Why not just take the blanket off yourself? Put it at the end of the bed or on the floor on over the chair or in the closet? One of the things I love is turning the AC up full blast and sleeping with the down comforter on. . .we all have our preferences - if this is the biggest hassle then. . . ^
