Hello US Air board,

I have been elite with CO then NW for the past 5 years. In April I booked my first flight in US Air in a decade so I could travel with a couple of friends next weekend. They are gold on AA, I am silver on NW. After reading the forum I was able to get a comp to US Silver. I think they are trying it also. I am familiar with how programs generally work, but had several questions specific to US Air that I have not been able to find in the search feature.

1.) Is there a weekly, day or free pass available for the clubs? I have a membership in WorldClubs and really don't think I need a second one. They come in very handy though. I have booked several Trans cons Phl-lax in early june, back to back and would like to be able to take advantage of the clubs. I was told a Day pass was $35. Well after a week you might as well by the one for the whole year. Are there free passes floating around that I could trade for?

2.) Are the free upgrades working and how hard is it for a silver to be upgraded on a transcon? I have hit the apply upgrade button on my itins, is that all I need to do?

3.) How hard is it to redeem miles? Specifically on US, but also on UA and other partner airlines.

4.) Is the fly 3 get one free voucher basically the same as a standard award redemption? How hard or easy are these vouchers to redeem?

5.) Are prefered members eligible for the complimentary upgrades on award and/or F3F tickets?

6.) I have seen a lot of references that speculate that US air might not last much longer. Does anyone have a do or die date available? If so, how much value would these awards have? I know we are going into the "high" earning season so I would not expect anything till at least fall, but I have not really paid much attention to US except that they were in Bankruptcy.

Thank you for your help on these issues, as I think of more I will post them.

4. If I understand it correctly, the voucher is capacity controlled like a standard coach award.

5. Premium awards can be upgraded. Standard awards cannot.

Hello US Air board,

2. Upgrades are working very well. As a note, the general consensus is NOT to hit the "apply upgrades" during the purchase of the tickets rather put yourself on the waitlist via the normal "apply upgrades" button on the DM website or waitlist via phone (which I do all the time to make darn sure I'm listed).

3. Mileage redemption for US has been fairly open for myself and has had good success rates compared to other airlines.

4. Yes and no. The ticket is booked in the same award class as the standard awards (X) but does have a few other restrictions (IIRC 14 day advance).

5. Unlimited upgrades can only be used on premium award bookings as they are booked in "Y" rather than "X".

Welcome to US!

Day passes can be purchased for $50. 1-time-entry passes can be purchased for $35. In other words, if you have a connection and would conceivably need access to two clubs, you would probably want the day pass. If your departure airport does not have a club & you would conceivably only need access to the club during your layover, you would want the $35 pass good for one club entry.

The BofA Visa Platinum card (recently "upgraded" to Visa Signature card - numerous threads on this -- although I haven't received mine yet, but I digress) comes with one free "one time club entry" past good for you & a guest. I believe these passes are mailed with the June statement.

1.) Is there a weekly, day or free pass available for the clubs?

Yes-- I might have one lying around (although I might have already given them away to relatives)-- I'll check.

4.) Is the fly 3 get one free voucher basically the same as a standard award redemption? How hard or easy are these vouchers to redeem?

You have to book them 2 weeks in advance, I think, unlike standard award tickets.

5.) Are prefered members eligible for the complimentary upgrades on award and/or F3F tickets?

Yes, if it happens to anybody Preferred people should get them first, although the F3F tickets aren't technically upgradeable.

6.) I have seen a lot of references that speculate that US air might not last much longer. Does anyone have a do or die date available?

US Airways has been losing money for ages and is still around-- who knows.

What is the method by which these day passes can be bought? If I called the 800 Club Service Center number, would they sell me a few? Do these passes entitle one entry, or one entry + a guest or two?

My very dear friends are getting married and have ~2 hour layovers en route to Europe from the West Coast and back....I wanted to see if I could get them day passes to the US Airways Club for their layovers. Alternatively, if anyone has spare day passes that you won't be able to use within the next few weeks, perhaps we can work out a trade....

I believe that the one day passes and single visit passes can only be bought at the front desk of one of the clubs. I also believe that you have to use the pass the same day that you purchase it.

You might also try the coupon connection to see if anyone would be willing to gift you a single visit pass.

I've found the single day passes available on Ebay also... in fact I bought a couple cheap (in the $15 range) when I needed them instead of renewing my membership since I'm not flying as much as I did pre 9/11.

But be wary of the expiration date. All of the day passes mailed in last June's Platinum card statement expire next week (June 30).
