As a frequent traveller I ocassionally get asked to complete airline surveys. The other day I was asked to fill in SQ in-flight survey. Nothing new or suprising there you might say. Except that it was the 3rd one in less than a month from SQ!

Who chooses who gets to fill these out? While it is flattering SQ appears to think highly of my opinions, wouldnt it be better to get more of a random mix?

I find similar things happen. I am asked to fill in several in rapid succession and then not asked again for months. I thought that who was asked was random, but maybe it isn't. I also find that I quite often get written feedback for my trouble so they do read them and think about points that are made.

I like to fill these out, especially for airlines that I fly a lot like LH or SQ. For the others, like the punishment style US based airlines, I only fill them out if there is a lottery or similar bonus where I can get something in return.... else, forget it, I just pass... :D

I remember the first time I was asked to fill out a survey in SQ--it stands out in my mind because it was the first time I flew SQ in F. I had just asked the flight attendant if I could keep the menu. I meant only the menu itself, not the leather cover, but she told me to keep the whole thing! Then she asked me if I could fill out a survey. I was so grateful I had only nice things to say. :)

I had a similar experience on SQ in F. Can't remember if I had asked for something extra, or just that I had chatted with the purser and praised SQ, but later in the flight I was asked to fill out a survey.

If this is indeed a pattern, instead of anecdotal co-incidence, this 'survey methodology' obviously renders invalid any subsequent results. I'd think that SQ doesn't need to engage in this type of practice.

Passengers can play this too. If one wants to fill out a survey in the negative, one can go tell the purser what a memorable experience the flight is. :D

The strangest time I got one of these surveys was a trip in F between SIN and LHR. I was totally exhausted and had taken some sleeping pills. I fell asleep pretty much straight after take off and woke up an hour or so before landing and was given a survey! Considering I was asleep for 98% of the flight, I wasn't exactly sure what they wanted me to say!

And another couple of surveys in the last few days. Definitely not random when they only hand out one in the whole (fairly full) cabin. I've lost track of how many from SQ this year but I figure it to be in double figures by now

For my fight on CX YVR-HKG, I got the survey form. I assumed they asked me to fill in because when I checked in I told the agent that I always fly SQ and since that day there was no SQ flight out of YVR, then I had to take CX.
So, perhaps it's not random survey.
I was asked to fill in the blank form (like for an essay) from the purser for EWR-SIN flight. I think it's because we were chatting all the time and I repeatly said to him that SQ should have F cabin for these A345.

i have filled in the survey 3 times and each time was after i requested for something special (like a magazine that was not available, soft toys for kids etc) and gave a big thank you after i got it.

i think they want to get as many good feedbacks as possible so they give the form when they see you seem happy. But i was pretty cheesed off when they gave me the form at about 1.30 am during my SIN-SEL J Class night flight just when i was about to sleep.

so, i doubt it is random

I dont often ask for something special. But then again I am usually asked on the same sectors and do often get the same crew so that could be it? Maybe I need to spice up the survey answers!

My friend just got a survey form on today's flight (SQ 63) from Bangkok to Singapore and it is his first time flying SQ!! Also, it seems that the stewardess distributed a lot of survey forms on this flight (I counted more than 10 that the stewardess is holding on to).

Funny this topic came up...

I just got off the LAX-SIN (SQ019) flight in Raffle class....

This was my first time flying SQ. I was chosen to fill the survey (The only thing I could think of is because I had "book the cook").

Overall great flight, long survey!

Lucky you ... :D In March, I had been asked to fill the survey in my flights: SIN-SYD, AKL-SIN, HKG-SFO, LHR-SIN.

I've done 2 recently, one on FRA-JFK the other week and one other, which I can't remember the flight !.

On a slightly related note, has everyone got the pop-up survey on the SQ website ?. If anyone is wondering what to put in the last box for suggestions for the website, may I suggest the ability to upgrade on line with KF miles would be a nice addition. If they also want to offer a discount for doing this on-line as they have done with award bookings then even better :D

What a coincidence--that is exactly what I suggested as well! :D (Seriously!) Hopefully they will make that available.

I guess they dont want to hear anything more from you about the lack of Satay! :) OT: After hearing so much about it here I do hope they have it this Summer. :D

That you slept very well, enjoyed the spacebed very much, and you were awfully impressed with the breakfast that was efficiently served and cleared in a 30min period.

And no more SQ forums since either (coming up to 2 years). I wonder if my profile has a note "do not give survey"? :D

Yeah right.. :( You are just pretty lucky so far. Now I remembered I did two surveys in January. ;)

No surveys throughout 2005 and this year for me on SQ. On the other hand, 3 surveys out of 5 flights on TraitorAir.

Thinking back, I honestly remember filling only one survey on SQ (see post #4 in this thread :) ) in over five years.

 Hmm that makes me thinking, am I a PITA, since I am the only one getting the survey so far? Or, SQ just doesn't love me anymore by making me filling those long surveys... :( :D :D :D

Just out of interest Kiwi, did you ever get any feedback on your survey or a thank you note? I have answered a number in my time but never once received feedback or a thank you - despite leaving my contact details. :td:

All my surveys have been when I was flying as F pax. They got me 3 out of 4 consecutive times from late last year. Surveys have been for SQ and *A.

Again as SQveteran mentined, no feedback despite leaving my contact details.

edit : LHR-SIN route for the above flights.

I did three in January this year, all on a LHR-AKL trip, I think I was let off on the return to LHR as others were given them. I was in F. I did ask the CSD how they decided who to ask and he smiled and said it was random. I smiled back and said nothing ever happens on SIA by accident and I didn't believe him as they well know who their passengers are!

He then told me it depends what they want to find out and from who, sometimes it will be PPS card holders, sometimes it will be Krisflyer *G and/or other *Gs and other times it will be anyone else - *S doesn't get a look in unless it is Krisflyer and would count as no status. Sometimes they will be given named passengers to approach, at other times it will be just a group of PPS members and so on.

The one I did was perhaps testing out any reactions to NZ's new services as there were questions about whether I would choose airlines without F readily. Can't really remember the rest now.

once after having the only bad flight I have ever had with SQ. I had just finished complaining to the IFS when the FA came up and asked if I would mind filling out a survey. I must admit I was a bit shocked that they would hand a survey form to a passenger who was clearly not happy. So asked the FA why there were choosing me when only 5 minutes ago I had been telling the IFS that this was the worst flight with SQ I had ever had. She said that I had been pre-selected so they had to ask.

I got twice the survey regarding internet connection on board. Last January, it was asked in one of the question, how much I am willing to pay for Connexion session on board. Very specific price range.

I always seem to get asked for filling up SQ survey forms. At least once or twice each year and I am of lowly status with SQ, so not sure why they chose to ask me though.

And like SQFAN and SQveteran have mentioned, not a single reply from them, even when the comment is less than favourable. Because my consumer lifetime value is too low to even bother?

There are the anonymous survey forms and there are also the generic comment forms. I've been asked by the cabin crew to fill up both before. Survey forms are understandable, but those blank comment forms? Is there a quota that the cabin crew need to collect? Seems unlikely. I dun even remember having any complaints about that flight. Not sure why I got asked to fill the comment form though. In the end just left some praises for the (good looking) steward that served my row. ;) :-:

Not by SQ. Yes some other airlines.
