UNDERGROUND ROADWAY WILL OPEN TUESDAY
By Gary Richards Mercury News

There's a new tunnel in town.

Work crews at Mineta San Jose International Airport will open a new section of Airport Boulevard Tuesday morning, a 1,100-foot-long underground roadway north of Skyport Drive that will carry three lanes of one-way traffic to nearby terminals.

``This will provide a more direct path into the airport; it should really improve the flow of traffic,'' said spokesman Fernando Pena. ``People will have a direct shot toward parking and Terminal A.''

The short road will be just the second underground stretch of concrete in Silicon Valley. The other is a 340-foot tunnel that carries traffic from southbound Highway 17 to southbound Highway 85.
