My first ever flight on Singapore coming up this Sunday from Heathrow, and I wondered if anyone could help with a couple of q's....
Do we know if the Sunday 6.30pm flt will be v busy?
I'm both Virgin and Star Gold - so I presume I'll check in at the Raffles class counter - but will I get a fast track pass as I would on Virgin? Does my baggage get priority? It's an Economy ticket :(
I presume we can use the Singapore lounges at LHR and SIN on arrival/transfer? We're stopping in Singapore for 2 days on the inbound.
Do you think I'll have a chance of asking for a decent seat, ie, on of those pairs at the back of the cabin, or an exit row? If I turn up really early? Ring tomorrow? Wear both my gold cards as earrings?
And, do you know if SIN have a departures lounge in Bali???
I know, so many questions - but I'm seriously looking forward to getting away, especially on this airline! (even in Economy)

Hello, and welcome to FT.
Im not sure you can pre-book a seat on SQ if you have no status with them, still I would go ahead and try to call them and secure an exit row or similar type seat that you think would suit you best.
As for LHR use of lounges, your Star Gold should get you into some lounge.... I dont recall is SQ has a dedicated lounge ex-LHR, but if they do you will most probably not be given access to that. Im just transposing concepts here, since I know for sure that since you are on an economy class ticket, you will not get into the Silver Kris lounge at Changi Airport. Still, at Changi Star Golds usually get into the Premiere or SATS lounge I think its called.
Even though you seem a little sad you are in Y, Im sure you will find the SQ service in Economy to be to your liking, they are really one of the best airlines in the back of the bus - and try very hard.
Hope this helps.

There is a very nice departure lounge at Bali airport with a nice view and a terrace. However, it is a contracted lounge which means that it is not run by SIA or any other *member. Therefore, I'm not really sure if they will let you in as a *gold.
You must ask for an invitation at check-in.

so, as a star gold member, if i can only get to the pikey SATS lounge, i could technically go to, say Thai's lounge? could i?

I don't mean to hassle... one more question - I phoned and requested a seat (one of the pairs at the back of a megatop) and asked if they could do their best as I'm a *Gold... do you think I've got much chance of this? She said on the phone that I would get priority with this, but would I be better off registering for KrisFlyer and racing to do it in online check-in?

Provided you can get the seats you want online, thats your best bet. Else, the best chance you have is to check in very early so that the blocked off seats for distribution at the airport only have the best possible selection. Good luck.

One of the main reasons I gave up on SQ and the Krisflyer programme was their inability to pre-assign me a decent seat. Despite being a Krisflyer Gold, I got sick of only ever being able to 'request' a generic seat type,
In about 30 long haul flights within a period of two years, I scored the exit row only twice. I tried the online check-in thing on several occasions, and could never score a bulkhead seat either.
Admittedly, SQ are a nice airline to fly. However, since switching to NW and becoming a platinum, I have scored the exit row seat on 100% of the longhaul flights I have taken with NW and KLM in the past eighteen months.
I have a flight from Narita to Bangkok tomorrow in WBC. I have just checked in online and, yet again - exit row seat on the upper deck free for me to choose.
I am prepared to overlook NW's mediocre inflight service knowing that I will almost always certainly have the exit row as my seat.
Does my baggage get priority? It's an Economy ticket :(
I wouldn't worry about it. Singapore is the most efficient luggage handling centre I've seen. Seldom is one's luggage not arriving at the carousel at the same time as one arrives there on foot.
