American Express Membership Rewards - 5000 Membership Rewards to meet Amex advisor?

I signed up online to meet up with an AMEX financial advisor. I received in the mail a certificate for 5000 Amex Membership Rewards which I need to give to the advisor when we meet. I`m doubtful I`ll sign up with AMEX for financial advice, but I might... I`m willing to listen because of the 5000 Amex Membership Reward points being offered. But if I don't sign up, how do I know whether I`ll get the Rewards for meeting with the advisor? Has anyone done this, not signed up with them, and gotten the Membership Rewards points? Apparently, the advisor has to send in my certificate -- how do I know he won't just toss it if I don't sign up with them? Should I just cancel this meeting?

I took advantage of a targeted financial advisor offer for 5K DL miles - met but never signed up for anything - and did get my miles.

Beware the Amex "financial advisor" - it is a ruse to sell you stuff. They call the Amex "plans" Happy Meals - because they always have the same three elements. Instead of hamburger, fries and a drink, it is Disability Insurance, Variable Universal Life, and IDS mutual funds. Take the 5000 pts but you can do better with a fee-paid advisor, not a salesman masquerading as an advisor.
Spent 45 minutes with the advisor - got some very helpful free advice and within 2 weeks, the 5000 points posted. I didn't sign up for anything.
