American Express Membership Rewards - Canceling Delta AMEX Card Before Miles Post, Will Miles Post?

My dad signed up for the 15,000 Delta AMEX mile card deal. He thought he had signed up for Gold, but had received the Platinum instead. When he activated on the phone, the CSR told him that the fee on the Platinum would be waived for a year. The conversation was taped.

He received his first bill, and AMEX charged him the standard annual fee. He called AMEX and they said that the fee could not be waived for Platinum. They also could not look up the taped conversation. Fed up, he canceled the card on the spot.

My question is can/will he still get the 15,000 mile bonus? He did make charges, and he paid the pro-rated annual fee.

Thanks!

So what ...? There is nothing wrong with it. However, I do all my "business" with credit cards on the Internet, and cut and past the "fine print"... for bad days.

I believe your dad doesn't get the 15,000 bonus miles. He should have waited until the points had posted, then cancel. American Express would have given him a prorated credit of the annual fee.

I concur with the above post, 1st you had to use the card, then it takes around 6-8 weeks for the bonus credit. It doesnt appear on the 1st bill maybe your 2nd statement.
In the past i always calculated when I was gonna cancel the card so that I didnt use it cause you dont get the miles for the charges. Never had a prob calling after the statement closed by a day or so to cancel it and always got the miles that I should have.

Congratulation - miracles still happen!
Actually, I would use them right away, book a flight ...
