Hey all,
Im trying to get ahold of Rudi for some information on a trip to Switzerland, primarily Wengen. However, I am also considering Zermatt, but it seems to be more expensive. He seems to be the wealth of information on the topic, however if anyone has anything they could add it would be greatly appreciated. As some of you know I am looking for a trip for my dad and myself, after some perusing threads and conversations with my pop we have decided to look into a little Swiss skiing. Neither of us have ever been, and considering December is cheap Europe airfare time, we figured might as well. Thanks all in advance for your responses.

JLM,
Did you try leaving him a private message?
Rudi is great at getting back to people.... I have his email address but do not feel comfortable giving it out... but sure he will answer a private message as soon as he can.

William,
I did send a message, however, I just wasnt sure how many people are actually using that new feature yet. Plus, this way I thought I would be able to get other peoples opinions as well. Kind of a double service thing, if i came across as pushy, i apologize.
J
PS: Totally understand about the e-mail thing, i would be the same way and would hope someone would treat me with the same dignity ;)

Well, having had the opportunity to go skiing with Rudi in Wengen, I'd say without hesitation that you'd enjoy it there :) There were a lot of British tourists there, and it looked more middle class than Zermatt or St. Moritz. Ski runs were nothing less than fantastic.
You may need to go quite high to be sure of snow in December. Recent years have seen less and less snow early in the season (though 2003/4 was OK).

I am still skiing here in the Wengen-Jungfrau Region.
Until end of this upcoming weekend all major lifts are still running and we can still run all the way down to Wengen village, which is a big exception for that late in april.
Early season skiing in the Wengen-Jungfrau Region: Looking back the last 24 years (that's when we first got to Wengen), my guess is, that skiing here started:
* 10% limited skiing in the high region only (3 ski-lifts-open: Lauberhorn, Aspen and Salzegg, all in the Kleine Scheidegg area) before late november
* 20% same as above, but not before the 1st weekend of december
* 10% opening more than the 3 lifts mentioned above at the 1st weekend of december
* 60%: major ski-area opens at the second december weekend
* 95%: major ski-area opens at least a week before X-MAS
* 5% (twice so far in the last 24 years): whole ski-area not even ready to ski during the X-MAS-New year period (only 2-3 top lifts open, with very little snow ...).

We often have FlyerTalker guests at Wengen, but during the (ski-) winter-weekends often family members occupy all beds.
