I just bought a gps for my pocket pc from http://www.buygpsnow.com

works great...only thing i wasn't happy about is that the only way to power it is by sticking the connector in the lighter socket.....i was hoping it could be powered by just the pocket pc, enabling me to take it outside of the car

Which software are you using? Destinator or TomTom?

You should visit Pocket GPS World (http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/modules.php?name=Forums) - an excellent site with quite a few guys who know their stuff. It's pretty UK-focused, but you should be able to get the info you need.

I bought a hardware / software kit from Tomtom (PocketPC platform), and have been very happy with it. The accessories (mounting kit, GPS receiver, etc) are high quality and the software is pretty good, although the maps are a little out-of-date.

If you really want GPS in a Palm, you might take a look at the Garmin iQue 3600 (http://www.garmin.com/products/iQue3600/). The only drawback I've heard from those who own one is somewhat questionable reception with the built-in antenna in automobiles with certain types of glass (usually metallically lined and/or tinted in some fashion).

If you want a nice all-around unit, and can live without voice prompts, large memory size, and a USB (as opposed to straight serial), I recommend the Garmin GPS V (http://www.garmin.com/products/gps5/). It will probably be discontinued soon by Garmin, but at $300-320 with the car kit and power adapter plus the CitySelect 5 set with all regions unlocked for North America, it's a steal.

My only complaint with it is that spending the majority of my time on the wrong side of the pond, I had to purchase CitySelect Europe, and I have the wrong basemap--ergo, long drives can be somewhat of a pain as detailed maps must be loaded for the entire trip. When in the US, the small memory footprint has not proved problematic (for me, at least--those who need full coverage of the NYC metro or the entire Bay area might have some difficult choices to make).

I've heard the Tom Tom Bluetooth GPS for Palm is the ideal companion for the Tungsten T3. There are several reviews if you Google for Tom Tom Bluetooth review.

Yes, TomTom is constantly tested as the best solution, plus they've been around for ages, I remember using their software on my old Psion 5 when they were still called Palmtop software :)
