American Express Membership Rewards - AMEX Card Closing Date Today -- Would Charge Made Today Appear This Month?

Hi All,
Probably a stupid question, but here goes.
My AMEX card closes today for this billing period. I pretty much just use it for large purchases. I found a good air fare that I want to book, but, for cash flow reasons, do not want it to post to AMEX this month. If I make the purchase today, would the charge appear this month? In other words, is the closing date the last day for this period or the first day of the next period? If it matters, the vendor is UK based.
Thanks!

Can you put the ticket on hold & pay for it tomorrow? Or pay for it as late in the day as possible?
But to answer your question, I have had closing days purchases post overnight and some not for several days.

It seems Amex now has the fastest authorization/posting systems I have seen. Purchases I have made have posted within 24-48 hours on most occasions (for example, a dinner I charged on Saturday night posted to my account by Sunday night, talk about FAST).
I agree, try to place the rez on hold and book it the day after your closing date....better safe than sorry (if it's a cash flow issue).

My account normally has a closing date of the 15th, 16th or 17th. A few months ago my online account said it was going to be the 15th for that month. I made a purchase on the 16th and then the account really closed on the 17th. You guessed it, the charge was on my previous month's statement. Don't know why that happened, but it did.

I've had the same sort of experience as bobbornstein, but with the further caveat that I never know from month to month whether it will actually close on the 11th or the 12th. I'm wondering if it might have something to do with what day of the week the 11th is, but as I don't plan to charge anything today, I guess I won't find out for some time yet.
(I have the same situation as PresRDC in that I want to charge my federal taxes but don't want them on the April bill, so I have to wait until tomorrow to be safe.)
To answer your question: Yes , charges will appear on your monthly statement.
Your account will be processed in a few days in order to "catch" as much charges as possible made until closing date.

when I made a $20,000.00 charge to my starwood. It always closes on the 29th so I waited to pay some property taxes until 1am on the 30th. Low and behold the one and only month they changed the cycle close date to the 30th. So I agree with the above poster they must have something in their system that trys to grab high charges and delay the cycle date if they can on their credit card product.

Thanks for the info everyone. I booked the ticket today after verifying on the AMEX website that my account has closed for this billing period. If they somehow put the charge on this month's bill, I will raise holy hell with them. Since I pay my bill in full each month, I have found them to be accomidating.
