This is a certainty among all GH in Asia. I have had very bad experiences at the GH SIN, with my most recent stay (back in Dec) not upgraded to RC tower. I've even had to argue with the front desk clerk and she doubled checked with a desk manager and came back to tell me that they are "tight with RC rooms," so they cannot upgrade me. I was checking in at 8PM and will be checking out at 8AM, so I won't be able to use the RC for cocktails and the breakfast I could really miss too, so in my view I would like a nice room. Of course, they didn't care.

On a related note, I've noticed that hotels in SIN are the most stingy with upgrades. I've had problems upgrading at the GH, Sheraton, Westin (then), Conrad, Hilton, and the Marriott. I am suspecting that this is due to Singaporean culture???

1 - GH HK - Great Views and rooms
2 - GH Shanghai - Great height and decor
3- GH Singapore - Great location, rooms in newer wing Best gym of all Hyatts I have visited.
4 - GH Bangkok - Lively
3 - GH Seoul - Great Spa
5 - GH Taipei - Nothing special here. Poor quality workmanship throughout hotel resulting in premature deterioration.

I have not been to GH Beijing or Tokyo (where I have stayed with PH)

Singapore has always treated me well. I usually get a junior suite in the newer wing on RC.

The issues at Singapore hotels are mostly related to race. If you are a Non Asian you will get better treatment. It has happened to many times with me t and I have complained to Hyatt and Julia was kind enough to take it up with Hyatt International. I do not expect anything from them and have desided to take my business to Ritz Carlton. Hyatt Singapore is a great hotel but with a very poor management and Hyatt has not done anything to control their activity.

Ritz in Singapore is a great hotel and a excellent management. The have what I call a true club where I can get anything throught day, just ask.

Hyatt has good hotels in China/Tok and other places with excellent GM's. They understand the customer and try their best to help.

I know lots of things which are going wrong at Hyatt since I have employed some very good ex Hyatt employees in my company.

Another great property is FS in Singapore. I love their service etc. Unfortunatly my company does not have a good corporate rate with them. FS would be my first preference in Singapore.

i dont think this is specific to singapore hotels. i think this is something that happens elsewhere in singapore too.

if u dont happen to be caucasian, try ur best american or british accent. :)

Are there normally charges for Club Oasis? Some hotels seem to charge and others dont, any idea for Grand Club guests?

My favorites in Asia:
1. GH Singapore
2. GH Hong Kong / GH Taipei (tie)
3. GH Bangkok
4. HR Kolkata / HR New Delhi (tie)

Never stayed at the any Hyatt in Japan/Korea/China, so can't comment. Has the Hyatt in KL finally opened? The few times I went to KL (this was a few years ago), it was "still under construction".

Worst Hyatt in Asia:
1. Manila (I was so unhappy with it that I checked out after the first night and moved to the Shangri-La Makati)

The Grand Hyatt New York is actually the Hyatt Grand, as in Grand Central, It is not a Grand Hyatt.

Indeed...

A review of my past bills shows the hotel as "Grand Hyatt New York - Park Avenue at Grand Central"

Two "Grand"s, so does it make this property a double grand? -- Grand Hyatt Grand? :D

Overall (IMO) a moot point, as the title of this topic is GH ASIA, and unless the continents have changed, and I admit geography can be a bit tricky, the GH, or Hyatt Grand New York, which ever you want to call it, is NOT in ASIA :p

PS- with CO's announcement of new flights to Bejing starting next year, I'd love to see some recent comments on this property.

Mauld, my recent review of the GH Beijing was just added to Muerz's website. It's a fine hotel, and I repeat once again -- even if you never swim on a trip, this place is an exception: bring or buy a swimsuit and try the hotel pool!
