American Express Membership Rewards - Centurion Card could get you almost anything money can buy! What a big lie!!!
Centurion Card's concierge can get you anything you want as long as money can buy! What a big lie! Recently I called their concierge department requesting a pair of Los Angeles Lakers Play-off tickets for early May, the concierge told me that they don't have any reserved tickets for NBA, they would do as all of us do.....going thru TicketMaster for the tickets! From this little thing, I suddenly realized that "Why did I spend my US$1,000 for?"

Is this a joke? Laker payoff tickets? Right.
They specifically state that tickets to sold out events are not part of their services.

$$$ but you can easily get tickets if you want to pay.
How would you even expect them to score tickets to the Lakers playoffs?

I surprised they didn't offer to call a broker for you...that's what they usually do. But the tix will be expensive.

That has also been my experience.
Given the price for which these sorts of tickets can change hands, I find the comment 'what did I pay my $1,000 for?' slightly amusing.
$1,000 is a night at the Four Seasons or a really good meal for four ... it's not going to move heaven and earth for you.

But, isn't it enough for them to think of calling a broker?

_Maybe_ because of this:
IIRC brokering tickets is not necessarily legal.
A lot of ticket issuers say so on the back of the ticket.
While you will easily get away with this, Amex probably does not want to lean out that far...
Call them back and ask again. As long as you are not in NY or trying to get tickets for a NY event they can help you. They have a suite at Staples that you could get as well as access to regular seats.

It's really about living up to what they promise, not how outrageous your expectations are. My most recent experiences. Tried to obtain a bank draft in Euros to buy something from a guy in Europe who didn't take cards. Couldn't do it.Then, a few weeks ago, I checked into the Heathrow Hilton, and the guy at the desk told me that because the card I had was effective in March, I couldn't use it until April 1 (it was March 26), never mind that it had gotten me there across half the world. I was so annoyed, I called Ft. Lauderdale (at my expense, since the privately run call boxes in the lobby didn't permit collect calls, and the hotel operator kept connecting me from my room to AT&T Direct). When I finally got through, and explained they made me use a Visa card, the AMEX agent suggested I go back and tell them they were wrong. I went nuts, and the guy finally called the place and got them to do it, which should have been the first thing he did. Then, I requested a Platinum card be issued to a family member, and attached to my Centurion account. In spite of telling them I am away much of the winter, and not to use anything but US Mail, I came back to find UPS had left the thing without requiring a signature, and it had been by my garage door for a week and a half (how do you spell identity theft?). Lastly, was the trip to Normandy, where I called to arrange an English speaking guide, and was told I'd have to go back to Paris and join an organized trip from there. On the other hand, why would they think Normandy would have any historical relevance to Americans? Groan....
Last year I requested a supplementary card attached to my Centurion account for a family member :
The card came with the wrong color AND the name misspelled !
They sent a new card with the correct color, but the name still misspelled.
The 3rd card was OK (after weeks ...)
New try a few weeks ago : they issued again a suppl. card of the wrong color... Call to CENT customer service. The rep. asked me : "did you fill correctly the application form?"

Given the Laker palyoff tickets went on sale April 10, 2004 and were sold out in 50 minutes did the OP really think that Amex Centurion concierge would go online for him and try over and over again to get tickets before they were sold out?
Not sure if that was the function of Centurion. Perhaps if the OP scored the tickets (himself) he would have called the concierge for reservations for a limo for the day then to a spa to relax followed by restaurant reservations for a pregame dinner celebration at a fancy LA restaurant.

In addition to your example:
What about items that are only available in stores that don't take Amex (only MC/Visa/Discover) such as Trader Joe's?
What about normal (perfectly legal) tickets to the national tour of the MOVIN' OUT show, for which according to TV ads tickets can only be purchased with a Visa (since it's sponsored by Visa)?
