heading to europe (UK, DK, SE)for a week and i'm bringing some electronics with me. i need a universal plug / power converter kit that'll allow me to use north american 120v/60hz plugs on an european 220v+/50hz outlet with the odd shapes. can anyone recommend a good set of universal adapeter that'll also convert the voltage? cheers.

Franz makes a good one - it's an all in one universal surge protector adaptor that is one piece from which the needed adaptors can be slid out and used as needed.
I also have a set of adaptors that Samsonite markets under their brand name (picked it up in an airport after realizing I'd forgotten to bring the Franz) It's several pieces, but still convenient as they pack together in a little pouch.
Remember that not all sets convert the voltage so be careful. Note that many better hotels do have transformers if you need to borrow one.
If you are using a laptop just check the voltage ranges on your adaptor - most are 100-240 V, 50-60 Hz so all you would need is the adaptors.
Have a great trip!

Check your power supplies - many of them are dual voltage and will only require a pass-thru plug adapter, NOT a converter.
On recent trips I've taken laptop power supply, digital camera charger, cell phone charger and shaver, and have never required a converter. Adapter kits with about five adapters can be purchased for less than USD 10.

Before my last trip abroad, I purchased a Radio Shack adapter for about $25. It has plug adapters for just about every place you'd need to go, and converts the voltage. It only puts out 50 watts, versus some that can also do 1600, so it's appropriate for low-draw things like computers, battery chargers, etc., and not for high-draw items like hair dryers. My favorite thing about it is that the plug adapters are all contained in one unit, so there are no pieces to lose. It worked great for me for charging my cell phone and camera batteries while in England and France.
This is the one I bought: 50-watt Adapter (http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&product%5Fid=273-1412)
They also have a 1600 watt version for $2 more - that one wasn't available at my local store when I bought mine. 1600-watt Version (http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&product%5Fid=273-1413)
