There are comments on the etymotic ER-4 ear bud noise reducting/sound quality, but what about the ER-4 which you can find for $100-120. Has anyone used this on planes?

I think that the ER-6 are quite good. Of course after buying and using them, I had to upgrade to the ER-4P which are substantially better. Now I have moved on the the Shure E5 headphones, which I like even better. You might want to check out the less expensive Shure headphones and compare them to the Etymotic ER-6s. IMHO, these are way better than the noise cancelling headphones.
