US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - New board--what do you want to see?

I've already taken the liberty of tacking the two current bonus code threads to the top of the forum. With the new software, your friendly moderators could do this with various often accessed posts--we could also merge the two existing threads into one....

Anyway, let one of us know if you would find such a thing valuable.

Thanks,
/Cx4, one of your friendly US forum moderators

My first thought was this is a great idea and think the posts tacked are good ones to be there.

My second thought was to take neo's post on upgrading on United and tack it there too, since the question gets asked anew every week or so. But thinking forward a bit, how to we keep the first page from being all tacked post? Who would make that the call as to what gets tacked?

Not trying to be negative or difficult, as I like the idea of being able to do this and agree with the two that are there now.

What a non-improvement the site upgrade was. It took me 2 minutes to load this page alone. Yes, I have dial-up, but the typical time to load a page is 3 seconds.

At this speed Flyertalk is unusable.

Generally speaking, I'm more interested in seeing how tacking particular threads to the top of the forum might prove to be of use here in the US forum (in this thread, anyway).

Randy and his staff are very much aware of the performance issues that FT is currently experiencing, and working to tune things such that performance becomes much better. This process may take a few days, as Randy indicated that they had no way of simulating the same type of load that FT sees on a daily basis in a lab environment. In any case, this type of discussion is probably more appropriate for the Tech Issues forum.

Thanks for soliciting comments. Anyway, I agree with longing4piedmont's suggestion that Neo's US/UA upgrade thread should be tacked near the top of the US forum.

I think the Vodka reports are hysterical and somewhat unique to the US Forum. It adds a bit of levity to the US situation.

I agree with the comment on speed. Presumably, they know it, but the site loads like molasses. It's barely useable with my DSL. Also, I guess I'm just not adventurous, but it seems that we are trying to use available technology because....well...it's available. The beauty of FT was you got in and you got out, reading what you wanted, and leaving posts wherever. It was a simple destination. I have a homepage. 3 pages of instructions, just to use it, was a bit much.

I "stuck" the US/UA upgrade thread to the top of the first page, and "unstuck" V-2 of the bonus thread. If jkzahn wants, we can try to merge the two threads (something new in vbb), but for the time being, I thought the V3 was the current revision, so that's the one that will remain "sticky."

I'm personally inclined to "stick" the US Vodka reports thread, but I don't think that's quite what Randy has in mind for FT (miles and points, you know). Based on the frequency with which it is bumped with an addition, I don't think this will be all that problematic :D.

RE: the speed thing: I think it is simply a matter of time until the problems are resolved. I think Randy and company wanted more functionality, but I believe the primary driver for the migration to the new platform was that UBB would eventually hit a wall from a scaling perspective (based on what I know of the UBB internals, I'm suprised that FT ran the version they did as long as they did).

I love the new forums personally and am confident that the speed will improve as things are fine tuned. My company is in software, and I know first hand that only real life experience brings things like this to light.

Back to the question. I'd like a sticky for E-Savers. All E-savers, every week be it domestic, European or umbrella drink island destinations. I get those out of CLT, but I'd like to see all originating cities.

Another possible idea given US's current condition might be breaking news on their financial situation.

A final idea is new routes, dropped routes or other such information. It wouldn't be very active so maybe not very interesting.

Thanks for soliciting feedback on this.

If you start a thread, I'll "stick" it. It'll be up to everyone here to update it, however.

That's the other salient point about "sticky" threads that should be noted: they are still no different than regular threads (anyone can post to them) except that they are "stuck" to the top of the first pace.

I'd be happy to do this if someone can tell me how to get all departure cities. I used to get all of them via email, but now I only get CLT. Is there a way to get them delivered to my inbox?

How about making the Code Summary thread sticky?

I agree w/ the code summary idea as well.

I put together a thread containing e-saver information and "stuck" it to the top of the forum. I will be updating it every Wednesday as the weekly e-savers are released.

Will it be possible to have a separate sticky thread for 'HIDDEN' e-savers. Since the only way to find these is by brute force, it would save US FTers many keystrokes if we amalgamated our efforts. In the last few weeks I have found a wealth of them but not until about Thursday.

gar777,

I'm assuming by 'HIDDEN' you mean extraordinarily low fares...usually as a result of matching another carrier's price.

...if this is what you're referring to - we just need to come up with a good system to do this. If we want to setup a little web app (i can code/host it) where FTers can add super-cheap fares that they find... then we should do that.

The problem is that only one person can edit a post - and I don't have enough time to constantly come back and edit the main post.

Let me know what you think (all FTers)... if I see some interest - I'll open up a thread in the US forum... and if we get even more interest ... I'll go ahead and make us a quick little web-app to keep track of "super" fares :)

No Chris what you assumed is incorrect. Hidden esavers are actual esavers fares that are posted by US after the list is posted Wednesday morning, for the upcoming Saturday with return on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and are indicated in the fare list with the E-logo. The only way to find them is type in
multitudes of city pairs. For example on this past Thursday I found PHL-LAX for $199. After saturday these are no longer applicable fares.

Having the bonus code and other frequently referred to threads at the top was a great idea. It should cut down on the duplicative posts and questions we often see here as well.

Deelmakur, I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one finding the site a little on the slow side; hopefully, with a little tweaking over time that will improve.

I think there's some merit to putting the vodka reports up top as well...

gar777 - so does anyone know how to figure out ALL of the "hidden" e-saver fares? If so, then just point me in the right direction - and I'll add these to the list.

If these are truly "hidden" with no way to access a list - then we should go for the web-based app where FTers can submit the fares that they find.

Let me know!

Chris

You can change your esaver subscription settings so that you receive all (published) esavers, rather than just those from your home airport.

I've used it a few times to invite friends into town for the weekend.

Just look for the cities on other airline's "E-savers". US will usually match those after publishing their own E-savers. For instance, UA typically has PHL-ORD in their E-fares list. Once the E-fare is postd, you're likely to find a similar, competing E-saver fare on US even if it was not originally published on their email. I've seen this as well for PHL-MIA when AA has it as a NetSAAver fare.
