I like the new FT format btw!

Now, where is the Star Alliance? It does seem that US flights are listed (some) on the Star website schedule. ^

Geo is right there are people who start to get frustrated.
Some of there best customers flying a fair share international want to see the start of the star alliance.
Something seems to be wrong because they were always talking about early 2004 and everybody thought first quarter. Great marketing to and like always no explanation for what is going on.

I was wondering the same thing. No mention on the US website. No mention on the *A site.
Since most of my travel is now to CPH on SAS I would really like this to progress quickly. I have already had to modify 2 trips so that I flew United and was able to have the miles sent to my US acct. Also, it will be nice to be *G so I can get into the lounges while in Europe.

As reported on USAviation.com, US now appears in the Star alliance downloadable timetable. The start data is May 4 according to the timetable.

I've talked to folks inside the company. They are planning on a paint track for 3% of the US fleet to be done in Star colors. The ideal was to paint at least one plane from each fleet type in the colors. This is to be done by the coming fall.

We will know that US is really in the *alliance when US is added to the Star Alliance screensaver. Hmm, I wonder what color dot will be used...

Funny thing, that website. I emailed Dividend Miles in January about whether I would be able to earn US miles on some Air New Zealand flights I had planned (they already had mileage arrangements with JK, LH, UA, so I thought it was a reasonable question). Of course, they never answered my 1 question directly, or at all. They did say something to the effect of 'we plan to become a full member of *A in Spring 2004' and "Please continue to check usairways.com for updates." The only conclusion I can draw is that usairways.com is somehow magically useful for the people in cust. relations (it certainly isnt for me), OR when they said they would be joining in Spring 2004, they meant spring in the southern hemisphere, to appropriately celebrate their new partners RG and NZ. Who knows? US doesnt.

(p.s. my Thai ROP statement says Mexicana is leaving on March 31, but USAirways is joining in Spring)

I heard that the date is also May 4th. Yesterday I flew to PHL with my friends who work at ISP-they were going for Star Alliance training in PHL. I found that interesting since they are an Express only station. The big question is will there be a US Airways for much longer???? I certainly hope so!!

I'm hoping US gets the easy-to-spot green dot that will be vacated by Mexicana when they offically depart *A. Or maybe brown...it seems to be the only color not closely resembling another color already on the screensaver.

The more burning issue for me is will US be around long enough for everyone to enjoy the benefits of *A membership, assuming membership does actually begin in May.

Please oh Please let it be May 4th. I've got a trip to Europe the second week in May and I'd love to be able to try it out. I saw the screensaver and timetable update today and thought that might be it, but then there wasn't a US marker on the screensaver, so I didn't check the timetable.

If you go into the settings for the screensaver, you can change the dots to be whatever color you want. Be warned that they reset them every time the system updates, because it always loses my "real-time" option. I like seeing the random flight that it picks in that method. My coworkers in the office that I've gotten to use it stick with the Accelerated speed option.

Announcement on Apr 15 or 16, apparently, but May 4th was the date being bandied around down here last week as the official "in" date.
Nice to have you guys aboard..........................finally !! :) ^

I spoke with a friend who works for US and confirmed starting Star Alliance in May, their training begins next week, and public annoucement should begin mid-April.

This source has been very accurate in the past so I give this a high confidence rating.

if you take a look at the usairways.com site today, and go to the club page it says May for Star Alliance, and it says that Gold and CP will have free lounge access when travelling internationally.

As mentioned, it is 4 May. That is the date that US Airways will join Star Alliance. In fact, US Airways mainline flights are already showing up on the Star Alliance timetables effective that date.

So here is a related question...flying to Costa Rica in May, for STAR purposes is this considered an international flight for lounge access? I tend to normally think in terms of Europe, but since US flies to a lot of carribean/latin america destinations how do those figure in?

Are Canada & Mexico considered "international" for *G lounge access purposes?

Doubtful. UA Star Golds have had this issue. Some have gotten in, but the official definition seems to be for trans-atlantic or trans-pacific flights (USA to another continent).

From the usairways.com website: http://www.usairways.com/pro_services/club/club_pro.htm

Access to US Airways Club and Red Carpet Club locations, as well as nearly 500 Star Alliance Lounges worldwide, when US Airways formally enters the Star Alliance network in May 2004. Access to Star Alliance Lounges requires a same-day ticket on a Star Alliance airline.

Also, a club attendant at LAX told me that the announcement is expected on April 19.

Waiting with bated breath!!!!!!

I just booked a RDU-CLT-MUC round trip in C with UA miles as a star award. The RDU-CLT segment is in first, and the UA person who got it done said that US is treated just LH in terms of star awards.
