I am so sorry to see that there is only one posting so far in the NZ dining forum, so I thought I might add another thread to it.
On my most recent trip to AKL I dined at various places but found Sheraton buffet to be the best value at NZ$55. Casino at NZ$47 does not even come close to Sheraton since their food choices are very limited in comparison.
Hammerheads, which is a very upmarket place, has dropped down a lot after change in management. Despite having great food their servings (NZ$25-NZ$35) are tiny and there are very limited choices from the sweets menu (NZ$10-NZ$15). Me and my company left semi-hungry to get some more food at nearby cafes.
There are various restaurants/cafes in the Mission Bay (very upmarket) area with main meals for under NZ$20.
In the CBD a lot of Chinese restaurants offered buffet meals for around NZ$20 and this was really the best value for money.
New Zealand is really an awesome place for dining out since it is so cheap in comparison to buying food at the supermarket and cooking it at home.
