Australia, New Zealand & the South Pacific - Suggestions in Tasmania??View Full Version : Suggestions in Tasmania?? ranles Jul 4, 03, 4:20 pm Hobart, Strahan, Devonport, Lauceston, Port Arthur?????? Mainly posted to see IF ANYONE else has ever opened this area of FT Sweet Willie Jul 15, 03, 9:33 am On our trips down under, we just never got to Tasmania http://www.flyertalk.com/dining/ftdining_forum/frown.gif but I did dig up info from my notes: Moorilla Vineyard: is about 8 miles from Hobart, serves Tasmanian fare, can take a boat there Mures Upper Deck: seafood, Hobart. Mr Wooby's: Tasmanian fare, cheap. for a bar suggestion: Knopwood's Retreat Can't read my own chicken scratch, but there was a tower on a nearby mountain that served decent meals, but I would bet the view is what one really goes there for, not the food. ranles Aug 3, 03, 5:12 pm We leave in about 3 weeks, though I would try again. Mainly posted to see IF ANYONE else has ever opened this area of FT Port Arthur is worth a visit - it was an early penal colony. Many of the old buildings still exist and the landscape, particularly the harbour, is very scenic. Further up the east coast, I recommend the Freycinet Peninsula. It's a beautiful park and the walk to Wineglass bay is very worthwhile. Maria Island is supposed to be very interesting but I have not been there. Inland, Cradle Mountain is quintessential Tasmania and the walk around Dove Lake is well marked and easy for most people. gumbi_88 Dec 27, 05, 12:03 am Hobart, Strahan, Devonport, Lauceston, Port Arthur?????? Mainly posted to see IF ANYONE else has ever opened this area of FT Wineglass Bay and Cradle Mountain are must sees. I would skip the Dove Lake walk and do the hike up to Marion's Lookout for amazing views of the summit and the surrounding area (bring a picnic lunch and eat up at the top too). Drive up to St. Helens and the Bay of Fires too for some gorgeous long beach pictures. ozstamps Dec 27, 05, 9:42 am I'm flying to Launceston tomorrow for a few days just to get away from this 100 degree heat in Sydney. :) Pretty part of the world.
