PhoebeSnow Nov 12, 01, 5:53 pm My inlaws live on the island and there is nothing spectacular there that I know of to write home about. Better to try Naples (my favorite is Grouper and Chips - nicer than it sounds, followed by the Kabob House - great Middle Eastern a few blocks down the street). Everglade City (about 1/2 hour drive) has an interesting old historic inn (I think it called the Rod and Gun Club, but I'll check and post it) which is good and gives a sense of history to the area. YVR Cockroach Nov 20, 01, 1:43 pm Any comments about the Cafe de Marco? Fodor describes it as "award winning". Sweet Willie Dec 10, 01, 2:21 pm Short Eating report for Marco Island area. We stayed at the Hilton Marco Island. Food there was VERY $$ and not worth it due to mediocre quality. Ate across the street at the Fat Pelican Deli. So-Called "NY Style". It's not truly NY style but they serve VERY good sandwiches. The irish pub attached to it serves very fresh and reasonable $ seafood. Also, The Pelican's Bend restaurant on the Isle of Capri has VERY GOOD SEAFOOD AND is Priced fairly. Next door is the Capri Fish House, which is new and the owners are trying to make a sound statement by their food/service. Had a good meal there as well. 767-322ETOPS Mar 27, 03, 7:47 am I just returned from Naples. Campiello is a must. It's on 3rd St South - across the street from Tommy Bahamas. The short-ribs are highly recommended. Great wine list and live Jazz too. Wait can be long, but check back with the host every so often and you might get seated early. http://www.flyertalk.com/dining/ftdining_forum/smile.gif USAFAN Mar 29, 03, 4:03 pm <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by 767-322ETOPS: I just returned from Naples. Other good restaurants are: Roy's in Bonita Springs, 821, Zoes, Pazzo and Vergina all on 5th Avenue South. And Syrah at Bayside. Also Trios near/off 3rd Street. It's worth going: on the water, ... loooong history, many presidents have been there ..., however, the food is not good, also not expensive. Two places for Sunday fun, both on the water: Stan's idle Place in Goodland and Nick's on the Water in Isle of Capri. |
