South - New Orleans, LA

The Lurker and the wife may be traveling to NOLA soon. I was surprised to find there was not a dedicated thread to this city under the other category, but hey, it's not my board.
We would like to take in one of Chef Emeril's restaurants while we are there. Anyone have a recommendation on which one is the best? The Brennan's new restaurant Bacco is also on the list - hey, it's at the W French Quarter after all. http://www.flyertalk.com/dining/ftdining_forum/wink.gif
Also does anyone know if the Camellia Grill is still open? Man, what a brunch experience that place is.
My other question is about whether or not Stroud's Shady Oaks is still in business down in Abbeyville, LA.

I hope you got a good rate at the W. http://www.flyertalk.com/dining/ftdining_forum/wink.gif
Some say it's a bit over-rated but I would still whole heartedly recommend Commander's Palace.

We went to Emeril's (the flagship restaurant in the warehouse district) about 5 years ago. Almost blew off the entire dinner, because we forgot to reconfirm our reservation on day of dining (by the time we remebered we were on a boat, and had no way to call). Changed a 6:30p reservation that night to I think 9:45pm the following day.
That being said, the food was very good. HUGE, hearty portions. If you like what you order you'll likely have enough for a second meal. I think back then the bill was like $85 for two, with maybe just 1-2 glasses of wine.
We also went to NOLA's, very different atmosphere (much more casual). We dined at the Fish House in Las Vegas, and also very good food.
I think his website probably has the menus for his restaurant. If there's something you like on it, I would consider going. I don't know what the prices are now.

Starwood Lurker, I was in NoLa about three weeks ago, and ate at Emerils' Delmonico.
I found the restaurant to be as advertised, that is to say, wonderful food with generous portions. If you like, the caesar prepared tableside is a very nice way to start, but there were a whole bunch of "regional" appetizers that looked nice as well. I had a steak for dinner (for which the restaurant is known), with rosemary potatoes, which was excellent. In fact, the portion was so large that I could not finish it.
Above all, the service was second to none. The staff was attentive withouth being intrusive. I would recommend it.

Another must, which is located just down the street from the W - French Quarter, is K-Paul's Louisiana Kitchen. If I had one meal in NoLa, it would be here. It was one of the best meals I have ever had (food satisfaction-wise), a better experience than Le Bec Fin, or Jean-Georges.

Thanks for the info everyone. I'm leaning toward Emeril's flagship restaurant with an eye toward experiencing a "tasting" at the food bar. It seems this is the best way to get a little of a variety of offerings.
dsimon, I will take a serious look at K-Pauls. We will be there for at least three days and it may be a possibility.

Oh, my favorite topic; NoLa food! If you do go to Emeril's, check out the Degustations menu. It's a set menu, seven or so "sample" dishes and it's wonderful! The last time we were there and tried it, there was also a wine sampler that went with it. Not inexpensive, but great.
Hubs and I have been married almost 21 years; we went to NoLa on our honeymoon, and have been back at least once or twice every year since then. Went down about four times last year. It's a fairly easy drive from Memphis.
One day I'll check spelling before I hit "submit now".
