Original Design Team Members and Surviving Family Members of the Architect Principles Gather as the Encounter Restaurant Hosts a 40th Anniversary

Celebration

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The landmark Theme Building at Los Angeles International Airport will celebrate its 40th Anniversary as an icon in Los Angeles and one of the city's most recognized symbols of forward progress at a grand celebration of its architectural and historic significance. "Celebrating the Art of Architecture and Cuisine: A 40th Anniversary of the Theme Building" is a dinner event inspired by this occasion and hosted by the Encounter Restaurant (http://members.aol.com/premex/uploads/united/encounter.jpg) within the Theme Building on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 6 p.m.

Designed and built to usher in the jet age for the world, the Theme Building was completed in 1961 as part of the $50 million "Jet Age Terminal Construction" project at Los Angeles International Airport. A feat of modern architecture with giant 135-foot high parabolic arches, the Theme Building was the first structure in the U.S. to utilize supporting steel arches in its design.

The Theme Building currently houses an observation deck offering a spectacular panoramic view of the airport and the surrounding Los Angeles area, the Encounter Restaurant operated by CA One Services and offices on the ground level.

Celebrating the Art of Architecture and Cuisine: a 40th Anniversary Celebration of the Theme Building will honor the collective efforts of the joint venture team directly involved in its design. On site will be members of the building's original design team and family members representing the principles of the joint venture of architect firms commissioned to construct this building of the future. The guests will offer their insight into the planning for the building's visionary design.

The dinner will be preceded by a champagne reception in the lobby of Theme Building that will include a display of historical photos, items kept by the original design team members and memorabilia collected throughout the past 40 years, most of which has never been publicly viewed.

This 40th Anniversary Celebration of the Theme Building is hosted by the Encounter Restaurant and its Executive Chef Steven Falsetti. "We are proud not only of this landmark building in which we prepare meals for people traveling through Los Angeles and those in the surrounding communities, but equally so of our restaurant's upscale cuisine prepared in the Pacific Rim style and served in a setting that is unmatched," said Falsetti.

Chef Falsetti, through his Pacific Rim style of cuisine, will unveil his version of the culinary concept, the "Architecture of Food," during the special meal prepared for guests attending the event. Rather than limit his presentation to the horizontal plane of the dish, Chef Falsetti will illustrate his architecture of food concept by starting from the center of the plate and work upwards, creating a tower of flavorful food.

"The Architecture of Food is a progressive approach to preparing and presenting meals," said Chef Falsetti. "This concept is a result of looking at food in a way that many people may not have been imagined before."

Unique cuisine blended with distinctive presentation has helped differentiate the Encounter Restaurant's menu, not only among full-service restaurants at airports throughout the world, but also among the elite dining establishments in greater Los Angeles. Encounter is a destination restaurant where patrons from its southern California communities regularly exceed the number of its guests who are traveling through the airport.

Reservations for Celebrating the Art of Architecture and Cuisine event are $135 and are available by calling 310-215-5151, ext. 5. A portion of the proceeds from this event will benefit the American Institute of Architecture, Los Angeles Chapter.

Since its opening in 1997, Encounter has become one of the most recognized destination restaurants in the world, earning the 1998 THEA Award for outstanding achievement from the Themed Entertainment Association. CA One Services teamed with Walt Disney Imagineering to create the restaurant's spectacular setting within the landmark Theme Building.
