I was reading today at www.sjc.org (http://www.sjc.org) in their Airport Review about extending 30L runway from 10.200 ft to 11,000 feet. So my question is can a 747 land on such a runway? Will SJC get more 777 flights along with the Airbus 340,380 etc. Since SJC will upgrade their airport can we see the retun of AA SJC-CDG,SJC,TPE fliights as well as flights to LHR.SYD? The Bay Area only has one flight from SFO-SYD on a 747. Maybe Quantas could come into SJC using their 777 or 767.

I have several questions about this - they just finished extending the runway to 10,200 feet about a year or so ago. Why didn't they just extend it to 11,000 feet at that time? And how important is another 800 feet? What new aircraft will be able to land on 11,000 feet that couldn't land on 10,200?

Can't comment on the marginal usefullness of that 800ft, but each time they extend the runway they have to contend with homeowner lawsuits (and thus can never squeak by a very large increase)
