I will be flying out of Oakland for the first time in a LONG time. It is an 8 day trip and don't want to pay too much for parking, so don't really want to drive.
What are my best options for getting to OAK from the SJC area? Either from my home or SJC itself, if that is the best/cheapest option.

Welcome to FlyerTalk http://www.flyertalk.com/airports/ftairports_forum/smile.gif

You probably need to work your way over to Fremont BART, travel up to Coliseum BART, and then get the connecting shuttle bus ($2 charge). You could do it from SJC, on Valley Transit over to Caltrain, up to Milpitas, then onto BART from there, but that sure seems like the long, inconvenient way to go.

Valley Transit bus schedules (looks like at least two routes end up at Fremont BART) here (http://www.vta.org/schedules/schedules_bynumber.html)

Thanks for the ideas neighbor! No way we are gonna lug our luggage onto all that public transit. Plus, I don't want to leave a car at Fremont BART for a whole week! It would probably be broken into for sure!
I was hoping for the name of a cheap shuttle or limo from SJ to OAK or maybe hear about a direct shuttle from SJC to OAK???

If your party consists of two or more people, and you don't want to take BART, I can't imagine that any shuttle option would cost signficantly less than long term parking for the 8 days.

For example:

Expresso Parking - $6.95 x 8 = ~$56.00, -15% discount if you have AAA

Two round trip shuttle trips - don't know, but I double it's less than $56.00...

For somebody who's traveling somewhere for 8 days, this concern over a cheap ride to the airport seems ridiculous.

Depending on where you live or work, you're probably only a 5 minute drive or a 15 minute walk to a local edition rental car agency, like Hertz or Avis. They will even pick you up and drop you off for free, if you prefer. One-way rentals with no drop-off fee can be obtained for less than $40 and the rental car return site at OAK is only 100 feet from the ticket counters.

Best of all, you're in complete control of your drive to the airport, which will be shorter as well. You can even put "miles" on this vehicle instead of your own if you need to run some errands during the previous 24 hours that require lengthy drives. Finally, it gives you the option of flying back home at a later date or even to a different co-terminal airport (SFO, SJC) at no additional cost. Just make a one-way rental for your return home. I've done this for a year and my savings are in the hundreds of dollars. No more 75 minute shuttle rides and no more taxi's that don't show.
