San Francisco International has lost more air service -- in terms of seat capacity -- than any other airport in the nation since Sept. 11, 2001, a new study has found.

The report, by a Los Angeles-based group called Reconnecting America, found that SFO ranked sixth in lost flights, with an 18 percent reduction, but first in lost seat capacity, with a drop of 23 percent. The lost seats were mostly due to a substantial shift to smaller planes for regional flights, the report said.

Boston's Logan Airport lost the highest share of flights -- 23 percent -- followed by Los Angeles International, Newark International and Dulles International (outside of Washington D.C.), which each lost 20 percent.

Because of nationwide airline cutbacks, the report said, it is no longer possible to fly nonstop from LAX to Dallas or from San Jose to Miami. Hardest hit have been smaller airports -- especially Santa Rosa's, which no longer has any commercial air service.

Had to go read the report for this one. Yes, no more DFW-DAL service. Souns much more exciting than it actually is.
