I'll be flying into SFO in late December, and will have about a 4 hr. layover. Was just wondering how to get to the museum or the art exhibitions and the newer part. I will be arriving internationally and departing domestically. I wish to have as many things to do besides staying in the Lounge, as I barely know the terminal well due to this.
Thanks

The Museum/Library are part of the International zone, but are only open 10-4:30 Sun-Fri, excluding holidays.

There are various art exhibits throughout the terminals, usually parallelling the people-movers.

All the terminals make a circle, with passages leading out in forks-

Unfortunately, now that you need to be on a flight leaving from a terminal to transit the forks, you will be restricted to the main areas of each terminal and all of the one(s) you are arriving/leaving from...

Hi,

You didn't say how late in Dec you were travelling so I thought that I would post this just in case...

What I would do is go the domestic terminal after arrival and check in for your connecting flight. After that you will be free to take a cab to somewhere interesting off site.

About 30 min by cab is the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art

They have great exhibits as well as a nice cafe and gift shop. You should have plenty of time to go up for a nice look around and still have time to get back to the airport.

For those into aviation there is the Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos.

This is quick trip by cab (15 min from SFO)
They are open 7 days a week from 10-5.

If you just want a beer, a bite to eat, some quick shopping or just a nice place to walk around, head to Burlingame Avenue in Burliname (about 10 min by cab from SFO). There are numerous restaurants (Il Fornaio, Left at Albuquerque etc) and interesting shops around this quaint 3 block area.

For those with kids who arrive during the day the Coyote Point Museum is open from Tues-Sun. They have a little aviary and wildlife rescue habitat. At noon or so they feed the charismatic little resident river otters. If you come in on UA domestic you can get take out salads, soups or sandwiches at the Crab Pot (next to the escalator that goes down to baggage claim) and take it to the picnic area at Coyote Point. (10 min by cab from the airport)

These were rather eclectic recommendations but I hope they prove helpful to someone along the way...

cheers,
