I am flying from PIT to KOA through LAX.
My flight with USAirways lands in Terminal 1 while my flight to KOA with United departs Terminal 7.
I arrive at LAX around 12:00 PM on a Friday and depart around 2:00 PM
How long will it take to get between the two terminals and do you need to got through security again.

Terminal 1 and Terminal 7 are not connected, so yes, you will have to re-clear security at Terminal 7. There are actually quite a few checkpoints into UAs gates, so if one are seems congested, you might seek an alternate checkpoint. One in particular is the one on the third level, above the check in.
As far as getting from 1 to 7, there is a free shuttle bus that you can catch from curbside arrivals (15 min tops) or you can walk it

Another tip (man, I visit LAX too often -The parking garages for T1 and T7 are actually connected via a bridge on the 3rd level. If traffic is bad at either terminal and you need to park (or worse yet if T1 parking is closed but T7 is open or vice versa - which has happened) You can enter in T7 (or T1), go to level 3, and take the bridge right over to T1 (or T7) parking.
It's also handy if you have to cross terminals. Walking from T1 to T7 is a breeze if you know about that bridge.
