JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT CLOSES SPECIFIC DIRECT ACCESS ROADS TO THE TERMINAL

Santa Ana, CA – Effective 3:30 a.m. tomorrow, John Wayne Airport will begin a series of access road closures beginning with the Michelson Drive entrance to John Wayne Airport’s terminal roadway system. Effective Friday, February 21, the direct access from the I-405 Freeway will no longer be available. The closures are due to increased security measures from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Vehicles entering the Airport roadway are subject to screening.

Passengers must enter the terminal roadway system from Campus Drive to the south or the dedicated SR-55 Freeway off-ramp to the roadway system from the north. Attached is a map indicating the impacted access roads.

"John Wayne Airport is committed to protecting our passengers," said Airport Director Alan L. Murphy. "Security has been, and continues to be, at a heightened level since the tragic events of September 11, 2001, and we are doing all we can to provide a safe environment and secure operations for all visitors to John Wayne Airport." Airport Police staffing levels have been increased and additional stringent security procedures have been instituted. While some of the increased security measures in place are visible to the public, more sensitive procedures are not.

John Wayne Airport does not discuss threat levels or changes in security procedures since to do so would undermine the overall effectiveness of the security program.

Travelers at John Wayne Airport should expect delays entering the Airport roadway system, at parking structure entrances and inside the terminal at security screening checkpoints where congestion is likely to occur due to the implementation of additional security measures. Passengers are advised to plan ahead and an early arrival two and one half (2 ˝) hours prior to their scheduled flight is strongly recommended to allow time for parking, check-in and the security screening process.

Passengers may park in any of the Terminal garages, A1, B1, A2 and B2 during their trip. At this time, you may only enter the parking garages from the upper level. Please be aware that if you do park in any of the Terminal garages, your vehicle is subject to search by the Airport Police Services. Additional parking is available in Valet Parking, or the Main Street Parking Lot.

This is the biggest crock of sh!t I have yet to see. So, I get screened just to drive into the airport, once again to park, again to go to the gate, and possibly once again before I get on the plane.

Can you say paranoid? What the heck are they thinking? I drive by SNA each morning on my way to work and it looks pretty screwed up.

I just flew out of LGB last Friday, and forogt how pleasant it really still is after all these years and recent issues.
