California - sending postcards from the airport

I spent the last week-end in LA and coming back to the airport, wanted to send some postcards to friends back in Paris. I found a machine selling stamps, postcards at the newsstand, wrote the postcards and went to the visitor information desk to ask where the nearest mailbox is. The answer : "Not within waling distance from the airport".

Well, I already had some difficulties in airports when I didn't think to send the postcards before going through security, but I don't remember finding no mailbox in an airport. I would like to ask if you know whether it is

- security related
- specific to LAX
- specific to US airports

Anyway, next time, I'll give them to the reception at the hotel. http://www.flyertalk.com/airports/ftairports_forum/smile.gif

I cannot speak specifically for LAX, but this is something that I run into since I try to sent postcards when I travel. It has been a security measure to remove mailboxes from some airports, especially inside security. Afterall, you know how dangerous paper cuts can be.

IAD had no mailboxed anywhere in Oct, BUR had them outside the terminal in Nov. I know there are others that have removed them as I have come home several times with postcards to mail, but cannot remember now.

Basically, I try to get them done early now and mail them before I get to the airport.
