HI Folks!
People speak of luxury suites......I want to brag about a double coup on a RTW trip to Auckland, Wellington, then to Bournemouth, where I had been invited to speak...on my own nickel. Arriving in Wellington after a wonderful 4 days in Auckland, we checked in at the Intercontinental Wellington. I had arranged the room through the Internet, and checking in, I was given a key and told to follow the concierge. We took the elevator to the 3rd floor, and walked down to the end of the hall. There was only a large French door, and I didn't have the vaguest idea where our room was. The gentleman put the key in the door, and opened up the Presidential Suite for us. It was awesome! I told him there was a mistake, and he said "no, Madam", without further explanation. Too bad it was for only one night....this was bigger than my house! A dining room seating 12, a kitchen to die for, a bed twice as big as a typical king bed, and a marble bathroom, his and her private toilets, huge walk-in shower, Jacuzzi tub, towels that were so soft you could smother in them, and all the amenities one could possibly wish for. From Wellington, we flew to Hong Kong for a couple days, and then an up-grade on BA to First, with a bed! I can't tell you what a difference it makes to fly laying down. The cabin attendant placed a soft, warm duvet over me, and put two of the plushest pillows under my head.....I was in heaven....again!
Arriving in London rested and relaxed, I drove down to Bournemouth, and exited each and every round-about without a scratch....close calls, but no banana. Stayed for a couple days after speaking at the university, and made my return drive to London. Stood in line at BA for our flight to NY, and for some reason, the counter person checking the tickets and passports of the passengers in line, came to ours, and pulled us out of line. He said we had to go to the other line. There was nobody in that line, but we went up and gave our paperwork to the lady. She looked it over, gave us our boarding pass, and told a gentleman beside her to take us to the Lounge. We passed through security in the Fast Lane, went across the hall to a special door, and entered the Concorde Lounge area.....You could have pushed me over with a feather! Our 3 hour space ride was more than phenomenal, and New York was in sight in no time. After this ride, there were no more surprises waiting for us……..this was a wonderful memory!
