Hey Gang,

Even thought I am a United flyer, I thought I would share this news.

I attended the Out and Equal Workplace Advocates Conference in Orlando this past weekend.

American Airlines won the coveted Workplace Excellence award from O&E. The brief write up in the program was "American Airlines has eaned its distinction as a global leader in serving its loyal LGBT customers, and providing workplace fairness for its employees. As one of only thirteen U.S. corporations to earn a perfect score on the HRC's Corporate Equality Index, American not only makes LGBT issues a priority internally but has been one of the most generous supporters of LGBT causes. With a dedicated LGBT sales team, American sets the standard for others to follow."

American also hosted a panel discussion on transgendered issues in the workplace which was excellent. They had a MTF ramp mechanic and MTF captain that spoke about their experiences. It was heartwarming to hear how American has trailblazed this issue.

This was the best conference I have ever attended... and my first O&E conference. Progress is being made for our LGBT community.

Thanks for this news, wharvey. I looked up the O&E web site and found that they had a page dedicated to the conference:

Interesting stuff.

Blair,

I was going to link to the site... but turns out they have not updated the site with the winners or anything else.... they must still be recovering from the actual conference... http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/smile.gif

Bravo! Several of my friends work for AA and I agree that they are light years ahead of other employers in the DFW area. They also are a corporate underwriter for the annual Black Tie Dinner for human rights here in Dallas. Last year, one of my FT friends sponsored a table... and hopefully this year he will get enough FTers and friends for two.

I had the honor of meeting the director of AA's GLBT marketing program and his partner on a transcon earlier this summer. He is a wonderful ambassador for AA overall.
